The central area of the cities, understood as its pioneers or historical nucleus, has sufered through the decades severe transformations due to its relevante territorial and populational growing. Many cities became metropolises over the 20th century, making occur the degradation of their urban central spaces, as a consequence of that process. The urban interventionist policies related to the architectural and urbanistic patrimony and also the central spaces revitalization of the patrimonial cities, are the study objects of this paper. This research focus on the urban interventions held and proposed for Goiânia, wich, even though considered a young city, is already suffering the degradation process. Besides that, the present study also mentions how the central part of the city has lost sociocultural and economical spaces for other regions of Goiânia. As source of data, it was used for this research, the avaible bibliography, theoretical urbanistic projects, reports, photographies and local visits. Through the obtained data it is possible to say that, besides the activities and life observed on the central area of Goiânia, it is suffering a fast degradation process and it urges interventionist policies in order to preserve its identity and memories. Some proposals already exists, but many other can be done and added to the first ones, specially for the wellness and benefit of the the city' and its population.
