This work aims to make a comparative analysis between Esaú e Jacó by, Machado de Assis and Dois Irmãos, Milton Hatoum, intends to study the interwoven processes in the path of creative activity on the tessitura of these two productions. From the reading of these works, it is possible to infer convergent aspects such as the subversion of some novelistic conventions, breaking expectations of readings, but the main difference is the different way in both the construction of the characters as the narrative genre that point; while Esau e Jacó is appealing the epic Dois Irmãos opts tragic. Thus, the study starts from the hypothesis that both have much adhesion as a movement of revulsion to novelistic models. Seek to illustrate the process of building both as well as the similarities and differences. To do so, we will expose our considerations into four chapters. In the first chapter we present a summary of the panel on Comparative Literature, Theory of the novel, the epic genre and its metamorphosis into romance so that we can monitor developments that romance has suffered over time. The second chapter will deal specifically with the construction process of Esaú e Jacó and their structural elements and their main intertextualities. In the third work the procedure of construction work Dois Irmãos have a parameter in the construction of its protagonists, the elements of the Dionysian and Apollonian aspects, in addition to having conversations with some of the major Greek tragedies and the Bible finally confront the similarities and divergent aspects in the paths taken by the two works.
