Resumo: | The sugar and alcohol industry is an essential sector of the Brazilian industry and one of the main contributors to its economic development. In order to contribute to the former research, this work proposes an assessment of the environmental impacts on human health concerning the use of resources in the sugarcane supply chain. The study presents a quantitative approach using the Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) method. The approach has as delimitation the analysis of the supply chain of the Anápolis microregion in the State of Goiás. The study considers the stages of sugarcane cultivation, transport to the plant, production, and ethanol transport to the distribution center. The results obtained in this research indicate that the transport stages have better environmental performance, compared to the other analyzed processes, with the highest impact factors for fossil resource use and climate change due to oil and gas Natural waste. Ethanol production, on the other hand, appears with the most significant contributions to impacts on the environment and human health due to carbon dioxide and methane emissions, waste associated with crude oil, natural gas, and hard coal, in addition to impacts on human health attributed to chromium, zinc, mercury, and arsenic. The cultivation of sugarcane has the second highest impact for the categories of land use (land occupation, soil modifications, and deforestation), ecotoxicity (considering the generation of atrazine, ametrine, chromium, and zinc), climate change (in the emission of carbon dioxide and methane gas). With the work, it is intended to contribute to improving the efficiency of the supply chain in the region under analysis, pointing out the main contributors to environmental impacts and human health, and also cooperating with the decarbonization goals assumed by Brazil at the Conference of United Nations on Climate Change 2015 (COP 21) |

A fim de contribuir com os estudos existentes na literatura, esse trabalho propõe uma avaliação dos impactos ambientais, na saúde humana e em relação ao uso de recursos, na cadeia de suprimentos da cana-de-açúcar. O estudo apresenta uma abordagem quantitativa, com a utilização do método de Avaliação de Ciclo de Vida (ACV). A abordagem possui como delimitação a análise da cadeia de suprimentos da microrregião de Anápolis, no Estado de Goiás. No estudo são consideradas as etapas de cultivo da cana-de-açúcar, transporte para a usina, produção e transporte do etanol para o centro de distribuição. Os resultados obtidos nesta pesquisa indicam que as etapas de transporte possuem melhor desempenho ambiental, em comparação aos demais processos analisados, tendo os maiores fatores de impactos para as categorias de uso de recursos fósseis e mudanças climáticas, devido aos resíduos pelo uso de óleo e gás natural. Já a produção de etanol aparece com as maiores contribuições de impactos ao meio ambiente e a saúde humana, devido às emissões de dióxido de carbono e metano, resíduos associados ao uso de óleo cru, gás natural e carvão duro, além dos impactos à saúde humana atribuídos ao cromo, zinco, mercúrio e arsênio. O cultivo da cana-de-açúcar apresenta o segundo maior impacto para as categorias de uso da terra (ocupação da terra, modificações no solo e desmatamento), ecotoxicidade (considerando a geração de atrazina, ametrina, cromo e zinco), mudanças climáticas (na emissão de dióxido de carbono e gás metano).
