The Basic Ecclesial Communities (CEB's) are part of the political history and religious memory of Brazil. This religious movement helped Christians to return to their "evangelical nature, to be leaven, salt and light in the world." (SOUZA, 2004). Having grown up on the foundations of Catholicism, the CEBs intend to contribute to freeing the oppressed people and understand that this is only possible through a change of mentality of the people affected. Therefore rituals, celebrations, songs, walks and courses are held as a form of informal education of the people. The CEB participants, mostly lay people, feel compelled to seek new horizons for life, since they are based on the idea of a liberating God, who is close especially to the poor. The present dissertation intends to be developed through a rigorous bibliographical revision and interviews with the participants of these communities especially in the years of 1960 to 1980 that we understand to be the peak of this movement. Thus, we intend to analyze the contribution of CEBs as pedagogical agencies that provided a way of (re) education of the poorest population, both within the Church and in Brazilian society, especially in the city of Goiania.
