Impacto socioeconômico da mineração em Goiás: estudo de caso no município de Niquelândia

In the city of Niquelândia, located in the state of Goiás, Brazil, social actors have, over the past few years, been working towards recovering from the negative impact due to the suspension of the activities at the Níquel Tocantins Company, which occurred in 2016, causing unemployment and a drop in public revenue, directly reflecting on socioeconomic development and proving the city's dependence on mineral extraction activities. Therefore, this paper aimed to analyze the impacts generated by the standstill in Niquelândia's GDP, which presented 22% drop in 2016, when compared to 2015. In 2019, the collection was just 50% of tax collected in 2016. The employment creation also dropped in 2019, with less than 1,329 jobs in relation to 2016. Initially, a contextualization of the mineral sector in Brazil was carried out based on the historical evolution of the political and legal interventions. Subsequently, a survey about the mining sector in Goiás is presented, demonstrating the representativeness of the sector in the local economy. Thereafter, a characterization of the city of Niquelândia is carried out, in which the impacts derived from the interruption of the activities at the Níquel Tocantins Company are presented. Data from 2010 to 2020 were collected from IBGE, Ministry of Labour, CAGED, IMB, FIRJAN, SEBRAE, among others, showing a decrease in all indexes. Henceforth, the study focused on presenting the institutional arrangements formed by the government and entities representing civil society, as well as the actions implemented in order to overcome this impact and resume the city's growth, aiming to promote sustainable and perennial regional development
