Resumo: Starting from the Lacanian perspective, we examine the relationship between the decline of paternal function and it’s subjective effects at the present time, particulary the authority’s figures. The research was done through a critical bibliographical review about the theme, having as main source the ideas defended by Lacan, Freud and some of his followers. For data analysis the method chosen was the Interpretive Phenomenological Analysis (AFI). The object of study was the paternal function decline on actual days. For analyses and reflection of the object of study, was analised the speeches of the candidate for the presidency of the republic: Jair Messias Bolsonaro, his speeches were extracted from YouTube, transcribed in its entirety and from then on, a thematic class was built, named "Paternal function". They were grouped then into three categories: identification, protection and hate, and from these categories the specific categories choosen were: myth, idealization, commitment, authenticity - security, trust, order - enemies, corruption, violence.

Fez-se a pesquisa por meio de uma revisão bibliográfica crítica acerca do tema, tendo como principal fonte as ideias defendidas por Lacan, Freud e alguns de seus seguidores. Para a análise dos dados, o método escolhido foi a Análise de Conteúdo (AC). O objeto de estudo é o declínio da função paterna e seus efeitos na contemporaneidade. Para análise e reflexão sobre o objeto de estudo foram analisados os discursos do candidato à Presidência da República Jair Messias Bolsonaro, extraídos do YouTube e transcritos na íntegra e, a partir de então, construiu-se uma classe temática nomeada de “função paterna”.
