This work aims to build the Institutional history of the Spiritist Sanatorium of Anápolis. This Anapolina Institution meets the obsessed, therefore, madness, we go back to the 19th century and the first decades of the 20th century to discuss the ruptures that allowed the existence of asylum and the dominance of madness by medical knowledge in Brazil. It demonstrates the influence of French psychiatry in the country, as well as the consequences of psychiatric action from the perspective of race, eugenics and the introduction of the concept of abnormality. As it is a Spiritist Institution, the study discusses the emergence of Spiritism in France in the 19th century, its assimilation in Brazil and, later, in Goiás; underlining his modus operandi, for an overview of the history of Anápolis to seek historical motivations, linked to the progress category, for the establishment of the Spiritist Sanatorium. When building the history of this Institution, we focused on the moments of ruptures, on the subversions of the public power, on the evaluations of the State organs in order to build the hypothesis that the Sanatorium in Anápolis is an organ linked to the spiritist charity that in the symbolic expansion of spiritism in Goiás he settled in the religious field of Anápolis and acquired social and symbolic capital through which, with many difficulties, mainly in economic capital, he remains in the Municipality today
