Resumo: The transition from youth to adulthood in the contemporary world is permeated with challenges and transitions. In the Information Age and in the context of the Knowledge Society, technological revolution, productive restructuring, in which the work category has lost its centrality, the new information and communication technologies, replace various human activities, cause the deconstruction of the work paradigm, with significant effects on labor relations and the level of (dis)employment. In this context, this dissertation investigates the dynamics of the contemporary labour market, especially the situation of young people who neither study not work at the ages of 18 and 29. The theoretical review addresses some reflections on the youth category and contemporary challenges, such as changes in the production process, technological innovations, globalization, which in a way have deepened social inequalities. The theoretical framework supports the understanding of the plurality of youth, emphasizing the category of young people NEET, exposes the individual characteristics prone to fit in with inactivity. By means of descriptive statistics and the database of the National Household Sample Survey of the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics, the characteristics of the NEET population from 18 to 29 years of age were analyzed in 2012 and 2017. According to the results, there was an increase in the NEET population rate for the groups between 18 and 24 and 25 to 29 years of age in Brazil, highlighting regional inequalities, highlighting individual characteristics (gender, income, schooling and occupation and non-occupation activity). It was concluded that the trajectories of the multiple juveniles, are not linear and that in spite of the statistics point out a greater number of young NEET in the smallest strata of income and low schooling, the phenomenon reaches all social classes. There was also an increase in the schooling of the population in the years 2000, but the situation does not persist, that is, the causes of this condition are structural. Moreover, the concentration of the subcategory of young people in the NEET situation, in the low-income strata is associated with social inequalities and consequently in conditions of vulnerability

Moreover, the concentration of the subcategory of young people in the NEET situation, in the low-income strata is associated with social inequalities and consequently in conditions of vulnerabilityA transição do jovem para a vida adulta na contemporaneidade é permeada de desafios e transitoriedades. No. of bitstreams: 1 Maria do Socorro Rodrigues Silva.pdf: 807302 bytes, checksum: 0005cbe0231e5beb7265890888a952a4 (MD5)Made available in DSpace on 2020-10-26T20:57:49Z (GMT).
