This paper deals with research about the use of psycho-active substances among young students. The phenomenon of drug addiction shows that the fundamental factors are: the socializing agents, above all the family and the school. Therefore I investigated the role of these agencies in the formation of the young person, what significance they have in the make up of the young person as a subject. In this sense, the young person was taken as a social subject, carrier of a history, a family origin, having a determined place in society. He is a unique being, who acts upon the world and within this action he produces himself and is produced within the whole of the social relationships to which he belongs. When defining the young person as a social subject one adopts methodological posture in which the young person is perceived as capable of reflecting upon his actions, taking positions in the face of life, which requires that the researcher distance himself and reflect. The best method that was adequate for this research was the phenomenal, because it permitted entering into the conceptual universe of the subjects and asking who these young people are, checking their everyday reality, the significance given to it, their anxieties and their dilemmas. The technique of testimonies was taken as the instrument of research. Six young people divided into two groups were interviewed: The first was made up of young people because they don t use drugs except alcohol and tobacco, the second group was made up of drug users in the process of recuperation. Criteria followed in the two groups: belong to the age group from 15 to 24 years; school attendance; belong to the same social stratum. The interviews followed a script in which they were asked fundamental aspects of a young person s life: leisure activities, political participation, paid activity, school life, use of drugs, and prevention. The main intention of this research was to organize knowledge that could aid in the formation of projects of prevention of drug abuse in the schools.
