The research in question addresses the role of religion in the lives of enslaved and freed black women in Goiás between the years 1772 and 1860, focusing on their participation in the Rosário and Mercês brotherhoods. The study aims to understand these women as active agents in the construction of their religious experiences, despite the social inequalities they faced. When analyzing the historical and sociological context, it is clear that religion played an important role in social cohesion and resistance to oppression. The research focuses on black sororities, which provided spaces for organization and resistance for black women, even in the midst of slavery and discrimination. The investigation seeks to elucidate how religion legitimized or questioned inequalities, and how black women found meaning and resistance in their faith. Religion is considered a fundamental element in the cultural and identity construction of these women, especially through black brotherhoods. The research methodology includes bibliographic and documentary analysis, with an emphasis on the Books of Commitment of the Rosário and Mercês brotherhoods. We aim to understand the sociological function of religion in the lives of black women in Goiás, highlighting their cultural and social contributions, and how these religious institutions were spaces of existence and resistance for them
