The present study aims to investigate the pleasure and suffering from the perspective of professors in Business Administration courses of two private Institutions of Higher Education (IHEs) in the city of São Paulo, Brazil. The core objective was to verify the experiences of pleasure and suffering of professors of private higher education courses, analyzing the possible divergences and convergences, as well as the strategies of the most commonly used methods of personal and collective defense. To answer the question: What are the professors perceptions of the pleasures and sufferings of professors of private higher education courses in two private institutions in the city São Paulo? , a bibliographic review of the literature was performed. This work consisted of a qualitative study in which the data were collected through interviews with six professors and submitted to content analysis. The results illustrated the coexistence of the pleasure-suffering dynamic in the professors work as well as many similarities between the two institutions. Pleasure is related to the satisfaction obtained in the activity of lecturing, in the interaction with and recognition on the part of the students, in the ability to contribute to the formation of critical individuals, and in the development of the students logical reasoning. The experience of suffering is related to the lack of an equal salary among the professors and their corresponding titles, to the lack of institutional recognition, to the wide range of disciplines that they lecture, to their semester load, to institutional violence, to their extensive work shift, to the conditions of an overload of tasks and the constant need for training, among others. Nevertheless, it is interesting to observe that the fact that the professors do not feel valued by the institution and by society seems not to affect their involvement with and their dedication to the students and their work. Among the professors defensive strategies, what stands out is individualism: professors of higher education search individually for answers to their dissatisfaction. Among the most commonly cited strategies to deal with the suffering, even if unconsciously, is the perspective, in the short term, of being able to leave the field of education, whether temporarily or permanently
