Resumo: The present work aimed to understand the relationship between children and their family members conceming the rnanifestation of playing and educative practices studying a community on periphery of São Paulo. Conduct this work questions conceming (1) the importance of toys on educative practices; (2) the kind of toys that take part on these children's daily life and (3) the rnultiple relations of informal education, children and playing. Guided by Urie Bronfenbrenner' theory, this work emphasize the relational characteristic of human developrnent and the influence of different ambients on children's life. This study occurred during the year of 2001, on Vila Nova Esperança, district of Vila Brasilândia on periphery of São Paulo. During this study sessions of observation and interview were performed with two families that had their small children on school. Notes and tape records were used to collect our date. Grounded theorywas used to categorize and analyze our date. The results indicate that in spite af the children live in a violent, poor and unprivileged ambient with few industrialized toys they still perform many different kinds of playing in daily life. Our results algo show that playing has an important role on educative practices of children's family expressing an efficient toei to rnake possible the interaction of adults and their children

Questões relativas à importância do brinquedo nas práticas educativas dessas famílias, os tipos de brincadeiras que fazem parte do cotidiano de suas crianças e as múltiplas relações entre educação informal, criança e brincadeira conduziram esta elaboração. Norteado pela teoria de Urie Bronfenbrenner, o estudo enfatiza o caráter relacional do desenvolvimento humano e o poder dos vários ambientes na vida de crianças. O estudo foi realizado durante o ano de 2001 na Vila Nova Esperança, sub-distrito da Vila Brasilândia, periferia da cidade de São Paulo, onde ocorreram sessões de observações e entrevistas com duas famílias de crianças pequenas que tinham filhos matriculados na creche da comunidade. Para a coleta de dados utilizou-se de registros escritos, gravador e fitas cassetes. Na análise utilizou-se a Grounded-theory, ou teoria fundamentada nos dados, possibilitando a categorização e desvelamento do fenômeno estudado. Os resultados apontam que, apesar das crianças viverem em ambientes de pouca infra-estrutura, pobreza, violência e acesso a poucos brinquedos industrializados, realizam brincadeiras variadas em seu cotidiano.
