Para uma história da Associação Brasileira de Psicologia e Medicina Comportamental (ABPMC): uma revisão de suas publicações

The history of Behavior Analysis in Brazil began with the arrival of Professor Fred Keller in the country, in 1961, whose work aroused the interest of those who closely followed him, giving rise to a group of behavior analysts. In the following years, new members came, increasing the movement and making necessary some organization. One of the cores of this organization, formed in 1991, was the Brazilian Association of Behavioral Medicine and Psychology (Associação Brasileira de Psicologia e Medicina Comportamental – ABPMC), which gained space and contributed to the consolidation of the area in Brazil by plenty of ways, including by its publications. This study aimed to identify with which objectives those publications – the collections Sobre o Comportamento e Cognição, Comportamento em Foco and Revista Brasileira de Terapia Comportamental e Cognitiva – were released, as well as characterize what was published on those journals, and characterize its publication policies. It was identified that the collection Sobre Comportamento e Cognição, responsible for the publication of the works presented on the annual meetings of ABPMC, was consecrated as the first great space for behavior analysts and cognitivists to publish, in a period of time in which papers, works and other material in the area in Portuguese were scarce. The collection gave voice and supported forming a community of behavior analysts, having its firsts volumes used in plenty undergrad and grad courses throughout the country, presenting a great range of themes in its chapters. After 13 years of publication, the collection started to be called Comportamento em Foco. The Revista Brasileira de Terapia Comportamental e Cognitiva, which, as the Collection, was constituted as an important vehicle for the publication of behavior analysts and cognitivists, covers several themes in its articles as well, such as research reports, essays, reviews, discussions and case studies, among other kinds of text. It was concluded that the publications from ABPMC contributed to strengthen the Behavior Analysis in Brazil, providing materials in Portuguese, spreading the knowledge produced by the members of the community and contributing to the discussion among researchers and professionals of the area
