Resumo: This dissertation explores the complexities of the drug dependence phenomenon by combining psychiatric and psychoanalytic perspectives to provide a detailed analysis of clinical practices and treatment strategies for individuals with substance addiction and underlying borderline personality disorder. The research highlights the growing global prevalence of substance use and discusses the challenges faced by health systems. It examines the neurobiological bases of dependence, focusing on the reward system and the clinical implications of current diagnostic criteria. Psychoanalytic contributions are revisited, introducing new perspectives on etiopathogenesis and the unconscious mechanisms that sustain compulsive substance use. The discussion emphasizes the need for an integrated and multi-professional therapeutic approach to address the prevalence of psychiatric comorbidities in dependent patients. From a psychotherapeutic point of view, it proposes adapting psychoanalytic techniques for treating patients diagnosed with both substance use disorder and borderline personality disorder. This study underscores the need for more humanized and individualized clinical practices that consider the particularities of each patient. The dissertation invites critical reflection on current guidelines and the implementation of more effective strategies for the care of individuals with substance addiction, making a significant contribution to the field of public health care

A pesquisa destaca a crescente prevalência global do uso de substâncias e discute os desafios enfrentados pelos sistemas de saúde.
