This research discusses the Multiprofessional Residency in Health, which was established in Brazil in the 1970s, but was only regularized on June 30, 2005, with the decree of Federal Law No. 11,129, establishing residencies in the professional area of health, in the form of Lato Sensu postgraduate studies, with the purpose of training health workers. The Ministries of Health and Education, as well as the National Health Council, are interested in implementing residencies in the professional health area in order to train human resources for the care provided by the Unified Health System (SUS). Thus, the research aims to: Identify the perception of the preceptor in relation to his/her performance in the multiprofessional residency. This is a qualitative, descriptive research of exploratory nature, based on historical-dialectical materialism. This theoretical framework seeks to describe and interpret phenomena, as well as enabling the research subjects to present the meanings of their human relationships from the perspective of a given phenomenon. To collect the data, we used the focus group approach, remotely through the Google Meet digital platform, an activity that was recorded and later transcribed in full. The research subjects were Social Workers working in the Unified Health System (SUS), who work as preceptors linked to some area of the Multiprofessional Health Residencies. Regarding the results, it is worth highlighting that the data were grouped into Five Categories of Analysis: Work and Training; Resisting to Exist; Social Service and SUS; Challenges and Potentials of Preceptorship. . Thus, we identified that preceptorship in Social Work, when anchored in the principles of the profession, corroborates the strengthening of the professional ethical-political project and the defense and strengthening of the SUS. Although the preceptor seeks to perform his/her function with quality, favorable working conditions must be made available through training, qualification and preparation, so that this task is performed in a qualified and enjoyable manner
