Resumo: | The defining traits of comics were described by several authors through the latest decades, who focused on identifying its mechanisms and unique graphic symbols, such as its use of images that are both sequential (Eisner) and juxtaposed (McCloud), and the use of bubbles to express dialogue (Cagnin). However, there’s a contemporary movement that proposes the subversion of the hegemonic editorial language, which is enabled through indie publishing and some small publishers. The indie publishing scene is also flourishing with political and critical content, since it is not considered appealing to bigger publishers. This study investigates the affinity between the experimental aesthetics and the political intent of selected comics, comparing their mechanisms and signs with traditional comics signs, described by the literature. Our corpus includes the following works: “Topografias” (Brazil, 2016), “Desconstruindo Una” (UK, 2016), “PQ CA?” (Brazil, 2017) and “My Favorite Thing is Monsters” (USA, 2017), which were chosen by their visual experimentation, and by their diverse social and geopolitical contexts. The analysis describes the relationship between experimentation and each work’s content, to verify how this relation happens, and suggesting similarities and differences between these works |

Contudo, nota-se um movimento contemporâneo que pretende subverter a linguagem editorial hegemônica, e que encontra espaço na cena de publicação independente e nas pequenas editoras; espaço este que também acolhe publicações de conteúdo crítico e político, que têm dificuldade de se concretizarem através do mercado editorial convencional. Este trabalho investiga a relação entre a estética experimental e a intenção política em projetos de histórias em quadrinhos, a partir da leitura crítica de obras selecionadas, e da comparação entre mecanismos e signos dessas obras com os elementos mais tradicionais das HQs descritos na literatura. Como teorias fundamentais referentes a política e resistência, recorreu-se às obras “Gender Trouble: Feminism and the Subversion of Identity” (BUTLER, 2006) e “Vulnerability In Resistance” (BUTLER; GAMBETTI; SABSAY, 2016). O corpus é composto pelas obras “Topografias” (Brasil, 2016), “Desconstruindo Una” (Inglaterra, 2016), “PQ Ca?” (Brasil, 2017) e “My Favorite Thing is Monsters” (EUA, 2017), escolhidas de acordo com as experimentações de linguagem que propõem, visto que cada uma das obras foi desenvolvida em um contexto social e geopolítico diferente.
