The present work had as it aim to understand how the space appropriation in the more significant scale ambient selected by adults with visual impairment occurs and to put forward which other phenomena of Environmental Psychology could be identified in this study. Therefore, we used the concept of space appropriation considered by Pol (2002) that implies in a circular and dual composed model by the dimensions of action-transformation and symbolic identification. We adopted a qualitative investigation approach through case studies. The analysis is taken under the systemic perspective. Three adults with visual impairment, with ages between 28 and 45 years old, from both genders, had participated of this research. We partially applied the methodological proposal of Bassani (2003a, 2004b). The following methods were used: thematic interviews (and clinic), observations (direct and photo shots) and drawings. The current data was collected in the places chosen by the participants. We identified three styles of space appropriation: 1) by resignification: it implies in the conjunction of some aspects as the acceptance and resignification of the visual impairment, the process of rehabilitation, the activation of the senses of perception and cognitive processes. Such aspects had been essential to space appropriation in different space levels. 2) by familiarity: the inter-relations person-environment are marked by the social interactions. The appropriation occurs mainly to places they relate affectively. 3) by property: the action-transformation and symbolic identification are marked by the territoriality. Other phenomena had been identified such as privacy, personal space and agglomeration. Suggestions for future research are presented and the relevance of such studies for promotion of quality of life of this population
