Resumo: This dissertation aims to analyze the representation of Brazilian masculinities as portrayed in the feature film The Awakener (Bonafé, 2018). An adaptation from a homonymous comic book with explicitly political and far-right content, the film dialogues with the trend of contemporary superhero films. Through procedures of contextual film analysis, the present work utilizes concepts from gender studies to understand how the film articulates the elements of cinematic language to construct its male characters. Therefore, it establishes the parameters of hegemonic masculinity, as formulated by Raewyn Connell (2005), in an investigation of the film's cultural and ideological context. Considering a multiculturalist and multiperspective approach (KELLNER, 2001), the work analyzes how the tradition of Hollywood action films and superhero narratives, transposed to the Brazilian scenario, influences the performance (BUTLER, 2003) of gender practices in The Awakener. A post-colonial perspective serves as the framework for how the film reflects and contributes to the ideology of contemporary Brazilian masculinities.

Adaptação de uma HQ homônima, de conteúdo explicitamente político e de extrema-direita, o filme dialoga com a tendência contemporânea dos filmes de super-herói. Por meio de procedimentos da análise fílmica contextual, o presente trabalho aciona conceitos dos estudos de gênero para compreender de que formas o filme articula os elementos da linguagem cinematográfica para construir seus personagens masculinos. Para tanto, são estabelecidos os parâmetros de masculinidade hegemônica, conforme formulado por Raewyn Connell (2005), em uma investigação do contexto cultural e ideológico em que o filme é concebido. Considerando uma abordagem multiculturalista e multiperspectívica (KELLNER, 2001), o trabalho analisa como a tradição dos filmes de ação hollywoodianos e as histórias de super heróis transpostas para o cenário brasileiro influencia a performance (BUTLER, 2003) das práticas de gênero em O Doutrinador.
