At a time when film production is marked by the exacerbated use of resources, especially visual ones, some works persist in promoting an image of emptiness for the spectator. The animation market is responsible for a significant portion of these works, and the versatility of building its filmic space is unique, making it a rich field to be explored within the Creative Industries. But that being the case, it is necessary to investigate the role of emptiness in the narrative construction of animations since this resource is often seen as an “absence of” and very little as the “presence of”. In this way, this research considers the presence of emptiness in the composition of filmic space in animated films, seeking to understand its influence on filmic space, in addition to investigating how different cultures approach emptiness. To this end, this work consisted of a bibliographical review that explored both emptiness and animated films, and finally, a methodological approach was proposed for the film analysis of emptiness, which considered the characteristics that were the sensation of emptiness to make a categorization. The Poetic Analysis of the Void (APV) was used to examine the film O Menino e o Mundo (2013) by Alê Abreu, in which a strong association of the void with the attention switches of the protagonist was observed, as well as with the context of enchantment in the face of the discoveries that do on your journey.
