Resumo: This research focuses on the uses of the expression mental illness in the discursive practices of the Psychiatric Reform. Although vigorously criticized by several authors within this tradition, such expression is recurrently employed in Reform institutions and, in particular, within the Reform s reference texts themselves. Those texts are mainly characterized by: 1. a quest for de-institutionalization; and 2. an attempt to build an ethics of solidarity in regard to madness. This Thesis analyzed several of such bibliographical references, through a method based on Wittgenstein s (Philosophical Investigations) conception of language. As a result of this analysis, I suggest that the notion of mental illness, as used in Reform´s language game, comes to life through a vocabulary that encompasses an interplay between a discourse of negativity and the dynamic construction of a renewed and inclusive social landscape: a new form of life

A referida expressão, apesar de fortemente criticada por esta perspectiva de assistência em saúde mental, é utilizada de modo recorrente nas instituições operacionalizadoras do ideal da Reforma e, em particular, na bibliografia que lhe dá sustentação teórica. Duas características fundamentais dos textos dessa bibliografia são: 1. o ideal da desinstitucionalização; e 2. a busca da construção de uma ética solidária em relação à loucura. A presente investigação realizou uma leitura problematizadora dos possíveis sentidos do termo doença mental no universo bibliográfico da Reforma Psiquiátrica, à luz da concepção de linguagem de Wittgenstein (Investigações Filosóficas). Como efeito da análise produzida, propõe-se que a noção de doença mental, no contexto dos jogos de linguagem da Reforma, realiza-se através de um vocabulário que abriga o trânsito entre um cenário discursivo negado e a construção, em permanente estado de não-equilíbrio, de uma nova paisagem social, mais inclusiva, uma nova forma de vidaMade available in DSpace on 2017-06-01T18:08:27Z (GMT).
