Resumo: | Religiosity is practiced in different ways and manners in accordance with different sociocultural contexts, and its effects on mental health are equally different. The way such diversity is expressed may or may not be understood as signs or symptoms, in accordance with the way it is perceived by health professionals and the religious. This research had the objective of investigating the conceptions and perceptions of fifteen institutionally authorized Brazilian chaplains in the Federal District of Brazil, Brasília, about the relationships between religiosity, spirituality and mental health of the population under their care, as well as the way they address this binomial in the context of chaplaincy practice, and what they consider good and bad practices. The research is grounded on the framework of husserlian phenomenology and the methodology is the descriptive empiric-phenomenological proposed by Amedeo Giorgi. It is an empirical investigation with a qualitative exploratory matrix. Phenomenologically oriented interviews were conducted with fifteen chaplains working in the Army, Fire Brigade, Navy, Air Force, Military Police and the Military Cathedral. The interviews were recorded, transcribed and analyzed in-depth in an exhaustive manner with the aim of gaining access to the lived experiences of the interviewees with regard to the phenomenon under study and understand it in a contextualized way, apprehend the meaning of each experience reported without losing sight of the general meaning of the whole framework of the lived experiences. The findings show that the chaplains recognize the positive role played by religiosity and spirituality in the global context of people under their care and some negative impacts in some cases. They value interdisciplinarity in healthcare, recognize competencies of other professionals, make referrals to them when necessary and emphasize the necessity of other professionals recognizing the competencies of chaplaincy in healthcare and making referrals to it especially in the face of matters related to religiosity and spirituality. The chaplains also pointed to the need of more expertise with regard to this binomial and its relationships to mental health for more efficacy in their service. Keywords: Religiosity. |

Keywords: Religiosity. Submitted by Rejaine Raimundo (rejaine@ucb.br) on 2022-09-06T17:14:59Z No. of bitstreams: 1 EmmanuelIfekaNworaTeseParcial2020.pdf: 803257 bytes, checksum: b3e1b8627571716e3d0507fbd7f02258 (MD5)Approved for entry into archive by Sara Ribeiro (sara.ribeiro@ucb.br) on 2022-09-23T13:39:22Z (GMT) No. of bitstreams: 1 EmmanuelIfekaNworaTeseParcial2020.pdf: 803257 bytes, checksum: b3e1b8627571716e3d0507fbd7f02258 (MD5)Made available in DSpace on 2022-09-23T13:39:22Z (GMT). Religiosity is practiced in different ways and manners in accordance with different sociocultural contexts, and its effects on mental health are equally different. |
