Resumo: The theme of this research deals with the evaluation of drug prescriptions for elderly people linked to the geriatric outpatient clinic of a military hospital in Brasília. It is an important topic to be developed due to the fact that aging is a process that deteriorates the biological functions and the functions of the individual's organs. In this context, it is understood that senescence is a natural process and an inherent part of aging. Along with age, it increases the possibility of chronic non- communicable diseases and, as an alternative, the elderly person starts to administer various medications. As a consequence, adverse reactions can occur, especially in cases where there is a prescription of potentially inappropriate medications for this population. Thus, the implementation of the appropriate prescription aims to improve the standard of care for elderly patients by reducing the use of potentially inappropriate medications, a fact that justifies the choice of the theme of the present study. From this contextualization presented, the objective is to analyze the prescriptions of the elderly who attend the Geriatrics outpatient clinic of the Brasília Air Force Hospital by applying the Beers criteria. The method adopted is an analytical, documentary, cross-sectional study with a quantitative approach, carried out through the analysis of 1,326 medical records of the Geriatrics outpatient clinic of the Brasília Air Force Hospital. The research was carried out through the analysis of the collected medical records, which was made through previous scheduling for such. As a result, 106 (63.1%) were female, most of them aged between 61 and 104 years, and the age group from 70 to 79 years, the most prevalent. It presented an average number of 5 or more pathologies, polypharmacy was found in 84 (50%) of the elderly studied and that 63 (37.5%) used at least one potentially inappropriate medication. It was also noted that the highest number of drugs administered were antihypertensives (21.1%), then proton pump inhibitors, 22 (20.2%), and later antipsychotics, 20 (18). .4%).It was concluded that polypharmacy was found in 84 (50%) of the elderly studied and that 63 (37.5%) used at least one PIM, presenting the highest odds ratio, which means that the possibility of an elderly person using of at least one MPI is almost 5 times higher in elderly people who use polypharmacy.

Submitted by Rejaine Raimundo (rejaine@ucb.br) on 2022-07-15T19:13:08Z No. of bitstreams: 1 MarielheMacielLopesDissertacao2022.pdf: 2053245 bytes, checksum: 33ddcb7aa57df677cf5aa311651ca9b5 (MD5)Approved for entry into archive by Sara Ribeiro (sara.ribeiro@ucb.br) on 2022-08-02T15:23:38Z (GMT) No. of bitstreams: 1 MarielheMacielLopesDissertacao2022.pdf: 2053245 bytes, checksum: 33ddcb7aa57df677cf5aa311651ca9b5 (MD5)Made available in DSpace on 2022-08-02T15:23:38Z (GMT).
