Image and Afro-Bahianity will be the path to be taken to build knowledge regarding elements indicative of belonging among students of the ICEIA Audio and Video Course, through qualitative research with an ethnographic characteristic, in a process that involves participant observation and interviews semi-structured.The objective of visually investigating traces of the Afro-Bahian way of perceiving themselves in the space defined by the school environment, imposes through the image, the idea of reflecting on the other and thus being able to identify them. The theoretical-methodological basis is anchored in the discussions of Sodré (1998) regarding the relationship between man and his reality and in this context analyzing aspects of the formation of Brazilian society and its cultures, in particular Afro-Brazilian, where culture is inserted. afro baiana.[...]; Abbagnano (2012), when dealing with the meaning of image as a mirror to identify something or someone; Durand (1998) on the role of the imaginary in the construction of social relations. Collier (1973) in the use of photography techniques as a mediation mechanism with participants in the perception of possible transformations in the way of perceiving themselves and being perceived as citizens born and residing in Salvador, in contemporary times, in the period comprising the years 2022 and 2023. Image mediation is divided into two moments: In the first moment, a videographic production as a mechanism to approach the group eligible to act as participants. In the second moment, the photographic image acted as a mediator in the relationship with the participants, in order to search for elements that expressed traces of Afro-Bahian belonging. Finally, the result of the analysis answers the question: After all, how can the image linked to Salvador's Afro-Bahian culture indicate belonging among students on the ICEIA audiovisual course?
