Resumo: This study aimed at the analysis of the water quality and the determination of environmental impacts of effluent discharge in a watershed. For this purpose, we delimited as study area the Olhos D??gua basin that is inserted in the river Jacu?pe basin, in the municipality of Feira de Santana, Bahia state. Along its route, the Olhos D??gua basin receives domestic sewage and solid wastes due to its crossing of the city urban area. The methodology consisted in the analysis of chemical, physical and biological indicators of water quality, as well as on-site observation of the problems in the study area, documented through photographs over ten collection points. The data were analyzed temporally and spatially, and they are also used in the construction of two indices of water quality, the Water Quality Index of Bascar?n (IQAB) and the Objective Index of Water Quality (IQAOBJ). We found several changes in the quality of the water in Olhos D'?gua throughout its drainage area. Taking the limits established by CONAMA Resolution 357/2005 for class 3 as parameters, median values were considered inadequate for the variables Dissolved Oxygen (in 7 out of 10 points), B.O.D. (in 9 of 10 points), color (two points) and total and fecal coliforms (10 and 3 points respectively). Even the median of each parameter being within tolerable limits, there were many peaks of values out of bounds. The number of fecal coliforms in the water basin reach values of order up to 2 million bacteria per 100 ml in the most critical points, including alarming figures even in the discharge zone. These results lead to the conclusion that the Olhos D??gua basin has a high level of degradation of its waters and represents a health risk for the population living around it, including the population that uses water near the confluence between the Olhos D??gua creek and Jacu?pe river.

Para tanto, delimitou-se como ?rea de estudo a bacia Olhos D??gua que est? inserida na bacia do rio Jacu?pe no munic?pio de Feira de Santana, estado da Bahia. Ao longo do seu percurso, a bacia Olhos D??gua recebe lan?amentos de efluentes dom?sticos e res?duos s?lidos em fun??o da localiza??o do seu territ?rio que atravessa a ?rea urbana do munic?pio. A metodologia de trabalho consistiu na an?lise de dados qu?micos, f?sicos e biol?gicos como indicadores da qualidade da ?gua, al?m da observa??o in loco dos problemas existentes na ?rea de estudo, documentados atrav?s de fotografias ao longo de dez pontos de coleta. Os dados foram analisados temporal e espacialmente, sendo os mesmos utilizados tamb?m na constru??o de dois ?ndices de qualidade da ?gua, o ?ndice de Qualidade da ?gua de Bascar?n (IQAB) e o ?ndice Objetivo de Qualidade da ?gua (IQAOBJ). Foram constatadas diversas altera??es na qualidade da ?gua da bacia Olhos D??gua ao longo de toda a sua ?rea de drenagem. Tendo como par?metros os limites estabelecidos pela Resolu??o CONAMA 357/2005 para a classe 3, foram constatados valores de mediana inadequados para os par?metros Oxig?nio Dissolvido (em 7 dos 10 pontos), D.B.O. (em 9 dos 10 pontos), Cor (em dois pontos) e Coliformes totais e fecais (10 e 3 pontos, respectivamente). Mesmo a mediana de cada par?metro estando dentro dos limites toler?veis, houve muitos picos elevados de valores fora dos limites. O n?mero de coliformes fecais presentes na ?gua da bacia atingem valores da ordem de at? 2 milh?es de bact?rias para 100 ml nos pontos mais cr?ticos, apresentando valores alarmantes inclusive na zona de descarga.
