Resumo: The building elements of the first urban settlements of a city carry within them the original essence of the urban landscape and the identity of its inhabitants. Considered a collective "treasure", it must be preserved as a singular reference of local memory and of a community's evolutionary process. This report aims to discuss the importance of the Montebelense urban history and the awareness of the citizens of São Luís de Montes Belos, municipality located 128 kilometers from Goiânia, capital of the State of Goiás, for the material and historical urban appearance. Therefore, we seek to understand its identity origins in which, after sixty-seven years of existence of this city, there is an imminent devaluation of the historicity preserved in some previous buildings, this aspect possibly demonstrates the relative "absence" of the Montebelenses' sense of belonging to the cultural heritage that has existed since the town was founded. The survey of empirical sources brings together history and theoretical references that discuss memory (collective and individual). Consequently, identity and culture guide the discussions that problematize this work, which bases its analysis on the aspects related to the construction of the feeling of belonging of the individual and of the Montebelense society regarding the "devaluation" of the remnants of its built heritage. This reflection presents actions, by means of heritage education, with which the aim is to give new meaning to feelings of belonging and social awareness about local cultural identity.

Considerado um “tesouro” coletivo, deve ser preservado como referencial singular da memória local e do processo evolutivo de uma comunidade. Este relatório tem como objetivo discorrer sobre a importância da história urbana montebelense e conscientização dos cidadãos de São Luís de Montes Belos, município localizado a 128 quilômetros de Goiânia, capital do Estado de Goiás, para o surgimento material e histórico urbano. Busca-se, portanto, compreender as suas origens identitárias nas quais, após sessenta e sete anos de existência dessa urbe, há iminente desvalorização de historicidade preservada em algumas edificações pretéritas, aspecto que, possivelmente, demonstra relativa “ausência” do sentimento de pertença dos montebelenses ao patrimônio cultural existente desde o surgimento do município. O levantamento de fontes empíricas traz a história entrecruzada aos referenciais teóricos que discutem a memória (coletiva e individual). Consequentemente, a identidade e cultura norteiam as discussões que problematizam este trabalho, que assenta suas análises nos aspectos relacionados à construção do sentimento de pertencimento do indivíduo e da sociedade montebelense no que se refere à “desvalorização” das remanências do seu patrimônio edificado.
