Resumo: | This dissertation aims to approach the female representation in the film Capitu (1968), work of the filmmaker Paulo César Saraceni, having as literary support the original work, Dom Casmurro, by Machado de Assis (1900), being screenwriters Paulo Emíllio Salles, Lygia Fagundes Telles and Saraceni as co-author. Machado, a Brazilian icon in literature, whose works have gone through an infinity of scientific works, in this dissertation, his most famous character, Capitu, is the main source in the development of the research. The analysis starts from cinema to literature, taking this as essential to understand Saraceni's creative process, which adds movements, images and sounds to the original work, according to his desire to film culture and at the same time expose his peculiar emotion. on condition that he identifies himself with the character-narrator, from the original work, as having an almost sickly jealousy for his companion Isabela, chosen to represent Capitu. At this level, the implications of the filmmaker's choices on female representation in the context of the late 19th century in Rio de Janeiro were analyzed. The female representation, in the film, met the limitations that the world imposed on her. |

The female representation, in the film, met the limitations that the world imposed on her.Esta dissertação objetiva abordar a representação feminina no filme Capitu (1968), obra do cineasta Paulo César Saraceni, tendo como suporte literário a obra original, Dom Casmurro, de Machado de Assis (1900), sendo roteiristas Paulo Emíllio Salles, Lygia Fagundes Telles e Saraceni como coautor. Machado, ícone brasileiro na literatura, cujas obras já passaram por uma infinidade de trabalhos científicos, nesta dissertação, sua personagem mais famosa, Capitu, é a fonte principal no desenvolvimento da pesquisa. A análise parte do cinema para a literatura tomando esta como essencial para se compreender o processo criativo de Saraceni, que acrescenta à obra original, movimentos, imagens e sons, de acordo com seus anseios de filmar a cultura e ao mesmo tempo expor sua peculiar emoção na condição de se identificar com o personagem-narrador, da obra original, como portador de um ciúme quase doentio pela sua companheira Isabela, escolhida para representar Capitu. Nesse patamar, analisou-se as implicações das escolhas do cineasta na representação feminina, no contexto do final do século XIX, no Rio de Janeiro.
