This study arises from the hypothesis that there are gaps between the scientific knowledge and the practice ofknowledge, which makes it difficult for professionals in education, health and safety to have a good performance when seeking to investigate, discuss and/or even to reconsider the use of psychoactive substances. With that in mmd, based on the understanding that individuals behave according to the relations established with others (which can be an individual andlor an institution) and furthermore, that it is in this relationship that we consider fmding the object ofpsychology, namely, the human behavior (which is dated and deflned by their history and environment), this research suggests a reflection on the current relationship of individuals with psychoactive substances, in order to contribute with the attempt to demystify old paradigms concerning this subject. To enable the study, we sought input in bibliographic research that included readings and the analysis from theorists that circulate around the subjects involved in the development of this dissertation, such as: psychoactive substances, behavioral analysis, the social practice of psychoactive substances usage, and education for autonomy/self-government. We discussed, over three chapters and final considerations, the existing relationships involving behaviors of use and abuse of "drugs". Finally, we focus on self-government as a possible altemative for individuàls bêcome á môre conscious human being, capable ofgoverning themselves and, therefore, able to confront and resolve conflicts in their environment, as well as to promote the survival of cultures and species.
