Surgical performance exposes students and professionals to ergonomic risk, with the potential to harm the musculoskeletal system and consequently interfere in maintaining professional performance in the specialty. Thus, the present study aimed to identify the ergonomic recommendations in surgical interventions, and specific objectives: to describe the main preventive recommendations in view of the ergonomic risk, to select the instruments used for evaluation and to elaborate a proposal for an ergonomic guide for teaching and medical practice in surgical interventions, subsidized by the results of this research. This is an integrative review of studies published in the last five years on the PUBMED Portal and Virtual Health Library - VHL. 259 studies were identified, which were submitted to the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Thus, thirteen studies were selected to compose the final synthesis. After analyzing the studies, it was possible to identify two thematic categories, namely: prevalence of musculoskeletal symptoms among students and professionals in surgical interventions and instruments used for ergonomic evaluation in the surgical field, main ergonomic recommendations in view of the ergonomic risk in surgical interventions according to the studies included in the integrative review. However, it is believed that the proposed Guide can contribute to the teaching of ergonomics, to subsidize prevention programs against the damage caused to the health of undergraduate medical students, residents and surgeons, consequently, having a positive impact on integrity physical, quality of life and maintenance of professional performance, in the surgical specialty.
