Resumo: In the last two years, the world population has been facing the COVID-19 pandemic which has considerably affected the physical condition and mental health of people, especially the elderly. In this circumstance, the elderly are at greater risk of developing adversities that can affect mental health resulting from isolation and social distancing to contain the COVID-19 pandemic, such as depression. Thus, this research aims to evaluate the depressive symptomatology of the elderly during the COVID-19 pandemic. This research is characterized as being transversal, descriptive and exploratory, with a qualitative and quantitative approach. Data collection was performed online using a form, which contained the following instruments: Sociodemographic and clinical questionnaire; Geriatric Depression Scale (GDS-15); Subjective question “Briefly describe how you are experiencing the COVID-19 pandemic”. The quantitative results were organized by the SPSS software, being presented through descriptive statistics, while the qualitative results were ordered through the R program using Bardin's content analysis. Participated, in a non-probabilistic way for convenience, 44 elderly people with ages ranging from 60 to 87 years. The sociodemographic profile of the participants was mainly characterized by elderly females who declared themselves to be Catholic. In addition, most participants were from the Brazil Northeast, retired, married, had a low level of education, and had a monthly family income between 1 and 2 minimum wages. It was found that 75% of the elderly had no depression, while 25% had moderate or severe depressive symptoms. The categories found by the content analysis are Negative emotions; Welfare; preventive care; Religious, spiritual, and faith dimension; Not categorizable. Thus, from the prevalence of depressive symptoms observed in 25% of the elderly participants, it is understood that isolation and/or social distancing, although necessary during the COVID-19 pandemic, can have harmful effects on the mental health of the elderly.

Nesta circunstância, os idosos possuem maiores riscos de desenvolver adversidades que possam afetar a saúde mental, como a depressão, resultante do isolamento e distanciamento social para contenção da COVID-19. Considerando tais informações, esta pesquisa tem por objetivo: Avaliar a sintomatologia depressiva de idosos em tempo de pandemia da COVID-19. Esta pesquisa se caracteriza como sendo transversal, descritiva e exploratória, com abordagem qualitativa e quantitativa. A coleta de dados foi realizada de forma online por meio de um formulário, que continha os seguintes instrumentos: Questionário sociodemográfico e clínico; Escala de Depressão Geriátrica – EDG-15; Questão subjetiva “De forma breve, descreva como você está vivenciando a pandemia da COVID-19”. Os resultados quantitativos foram organizados pelo Software SPSS, sendo apresentados através da estatística descritiva, enquanto os resultados qualitativos foram ordenados por meio do programa R, utilizando-se também a análise de conteúdo de Bardin. Participaram, de forma não probabilística por conveniência, 44 pessoas idosas com idades variando de 60 a 87 anos. O perfil sociodemográfico dos participantes foi caracterizado, em sua maioria, por pessoas idosas do sexo feminino e que se declararam católicas. Ademais, a maioria dos participantes eram nordestinos, aposentados, casados, possuem baixo nível de escolaridade e renda mensal familiar entre 1 e 2 salários mínimos. Constatou-se que em 75% idosos não há presença de depressão, enquanto 25% apresentaram sintomatologia depressiva moderada ou severa. As categorias encontradas pela análise de conteúdo são: Emoções negativas; Bem-estar; Cuidados preventivos; Dimensão religiosa, espiritual e fé; Não categorizável. Assim, a partir da prevalência dos sintomas depressivos observada em 25% dos idosos participantes, compreende-se que o isolamento e/ou distanciamento social, embora necessário durante a pandemia da COVID-19, pode ocasionar efeitos prejudiciais à saúde mental da pessoa idosa.Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior - CAPESapplication/pdfUniversidade Estadual da ParaíbaPrograma de Pós-Graduação em Psicologia da Saúde - PPGPSUEPBBRPró-Reitoria de Pós-Graduação e Pesquisa - PRPGPPró-Reitoria de Pós-Graduação e Pesquisa - PRPGPCIENCIAS HUMANASIdososPandemiaCOVIDDepressãoSintomatologia depressiva em pessoas idosas no contexto da pandemia da covid-19info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersioninfo:eu-repo/semantics/masterThesisSilva, Josevânia daAzevedo, Regina Lígia Wanderlei deCamêlo, Edwirde Luiz Silvahttps://orcid.org/0000-0002-8839-757Xhttp://lattes.cnpq.br/2674519323939759Lima, Marília de Freitasinfo:eu-repo/semantics/embargoedAccessporreponame:Repositório Institucional da Universidade Estadual da Paraíba (UEPB)instname:Universidade Estadual da Paraíba (UEPB)instacron:UEPBTHUMBNAILDS – Marília de Freitas Lima.jpgDS – Marília de Freitas Lima.jpgGenerated Thumbnailimage/jpeg2925https://repositorio.uepb.edu.br/bitstreams/37fd73da-2dc9-4d45-a73c-b59fce514398/download534f50047a5a2572f64896adf66fbc09MD55falseAnonymousREADTermo de depósito BDTD.jpgTermo de depósito BDTD.jpgGenerated Thumbnailimage/jpeg4575https://repositorio.uepb.edu.br/bitstreams/6fb98baf-036c-4f4d-b620-725904712a37/download192893b004962a1e38ff0a8758e58118MD56falseAnonymousREAD2999-12-31LICENSElicense.txtlicense.txttext/plain;
