Associação entre condição periodontal e estado nutricional de adolescentes: Um estudo de base populacional

The periodontal disease is a cronic infectious – inflamatory bucal affection that representes high prevalence in the world population. Recently, the same has been associated to diseases or sistemic condition like mellitus diabetes, respiratory diseases, cardiovascular alterations and obesity. With the overweight in children and adolescents, cronic diseases, traditionally dependent on age can appear prematurely, being associated to an sistemic inflamatory state, showing as a potential risk factor to the periodontal disease, specially on young individuals. The objective of this transversal study was to evaluate the periodontal conditions of adolescents and investigate the association with the nutrtional state. It has been used probabilistic samples per conglomerate on only one layer, comprehending 559 students, between 15 and 19 years old, regulary matriculated in state schools of Campina Grande – PB. Socialeconomic characteristics were analysed, of general and bucal autodeclared health, antropometric data and periodontal condition (CPI and IHO-S). Descriptive and analytic analysis were realized. The association between periodontal alteration and nutritional state was analyzed for the regression of multivaried and bivaried Poisson with significant level of 5%. 18,9% of the 559 students showed overweight and 98,4% showed some kind of periodontal alteration, of those: bleeding (34,3%), calculus (38,8%), shallow periodontal pocket (22,9%) and deep periodontal pocket (2,3%). Association between the periodontal alteration was veryfied with: obesity (p<0,05; 95% IC: 0.99[0.98 – 0.99]). The foundings on the present studies indicates association between the presence of periodontal alterations and obesity status on adolescents.
