Resumo: Brazil is the second largest producer of papaya (Carica papaya L.) with over 1.6 million tons per year, with the Northeast region accounting for 64% of production. However, one of the main limiting factors of the productivity of this crop in this region is the irregularity of rainfall. Thus, it is fundamental to enable alternative means of minimizing damages or inducing tolerance to water deficit by means of stress attenuating compounds such as silicon (Si). In this context, the present study proposed to evaluate the action of Si on the photosynthetic and osmotic mechanisms in papaya cultivated under conditions of water deficit. The experiment was conducted in tubes in greenhouse, using seeds of Hawai cultivar. Were tested three concentrations of Si (0.0, 1.5 and 2.5 mL L^-1) and four irrigation slides (20; 40, 60 and 80% of the field capacity). A completely randomized design was used, combined in the 3x4 factorial scheme with four replications and three useful plants per plot, totaling 144 experimental units. The silicon was applied via foliar and to evaluate the effects of the treatments were considered growth parameters, biochemical and physiological. The results were submitted to analysis of variance by the F test, up to 5%, and the test of comparison of means (Tukey, P <0.05) was applied, when there was interaction for the Si within the irrigation slides. It was observed that the water deficit caused a reduction in t he growth and physiological variables. However, the application of Si benefited the root growth, the height of the seedlings and the number of leaves, improving the photosynthetic efficiency due to the increase in the chlorophyll content and favored gain in the rates of liquid photosynthesis, transpiration, stomatal conductance and internal CO2 concentration. The application of 1.5 mL L^-1 of Si increased the levels of nitrogen compounds, such as total soluble proteins, total free amino acids, proline and glycine betaine, as well as the content of starch and total soluble sugars. suggesting that papaya seedlings can be grown with 60% of field capacity when treated with 1.5 mL L^-1 of Si.

Entretanto, um dos principais fatores limitantes da produtividade dessa cultura, nessa região, é a irregularidade das chuvas. Assim, é fundamental viabilizar meios alternativos de minimizar danos ou induzir a tolerância ao déficit hídrico por meio de compostos atenuadores de estresses como o silício (Si). Nesse contexto, o presente estudo propôs avaliar a ação do Si nos mecanismos fotossintéticos e osmóticos no mamoeiro cultivado sob condições de déficit hídrico. O experimento foi conduzido em tubetes em casa de vegetação, utilizando sementes da cultivar Hawai. Foram testadas três concentrações de Si (0,0; 1,5 e 2,5 mL L^-1) e quatro lâminas de irrigação (20; 40; 60 e 80% da capacidade de campo). Foi empregado o delineamento inteiramente casualizado, combinados no esquema fatorial 3x4 com quatro repetições e três plantas úteis por parcela, totalizando 144 unidades experimentais. O silício foi aplicado via foliar e para avaliação dos efeitos dos tratamentos foram considerad os parâmetros de crescimento, bioquímicos e fisiológicos. Os resultados foram submetidos à análise de variância pelo teste F, até 5% e aplicado o teste de comparação de médias (Tukey, P < 0,05), quando houve interação para o Si dentro das lâminas de irrigação. Foi constatado que o déficit hídrico causou redução nas variáveis de crescimento e fisiológicas. Porém a aplicação de Si beneficiou o crescimento radicular, a altura das mudas e o número de folhas, melhorando a eficiência fotossintética em decorrência do aumento no teor de clorofila e propiciou ganho nas taxas de fotossíntese líquida, transpiração, condutância estomática e concentração interna de CO2. A aplicação de 1,5 mL L^-1 de Si aumentou os teores de compostos nitrogenados, tais como proteínas solúveis totais, aminoácidos livres totais, prolina e glicina-betaina, bem como o teor de amido e de açucares solúveis totais. Sugerindo que mudas de mamoeiro podem ser cultivadas com 60% da capacidade de campo quando tratadas com 1,5 mL L^-1 de Si.Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior - CAPESapplication/pdfUniversidade Estadual da ParaíbaPrograma de Pós-Graduação em Ciências Agrárias - PPGCAUEPBBRPró-Reitoria de Pós-Graduação e Pesquisa - PRPGPPró-Reitoria de Pós-Graduação e Pesquisa - PRPGPCarica papaya (L.)OsmoregulationCIENCIAS AGRARIASMamoeiroOsmorregulaçãoCarica papaya (L)Mecanismos fotossintéticos e osmoproteção induzidos por silício em plantas de mamoeiro sob défcit hídricoMolecular memory mechanisms in the rice associated/Gluconacetobacter diazotrophicus, under water Stressinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersioninfo:eu-repo/semantics/masterThesisMelo, Alberto Soares dehttp://lattes.cnpq.br/3736022078444776Lima, Liziane Maria dehttp://lattes.cnpq.br/7350753350522784Silva, Sérgio Luiz Ferreira dahttp://lattes.cnpq.br/0173411400092352Maia, Josemir Mourahttp://lattes.cnpq.br/5385801263390593http://lattes.cnpq.br/1546518682972521Silva Júnior, Eugênio Gonçalves dainfo:eu-repo/semantics/openAccessporreponame:Repositório Institucional da Universidade Estadual da Paraíba (UEPB)instname:Universidade Estadual da Paraíba (UEPB)instacron:UEPBLICENSElicense.txtlicense.txttext/plain;
