Resumo: Infrared Thermography is a useful, painless, noninvasive and non-ionizing imaging technique that detects the distribution of heat on the body surface, recording and transforming into images the infrared radiation emitted by the skin, which can contribute significantly to aid in the diagnosis and planning of numerous orofacial alterations. The objective of this research was to evaluate the applicability of Infrared Thermography to quantify facial temperature before and after chewing, measuring the temperature of the masseter and anterior temporal muscles. This research was approved by the Research Ethics Committee of UEPB under CAAE 80009824.4.0000.5187. This was a cross-sectional, analytical and quantitative study, carried out at the Infrared Thermography Laboratory (LTI) of the Department of Dentistry of the State University of Paraíba - UEPB - Campus I. The sample consisted of 47 volunteers from spontaneous demand, recruited from the Department of Dentistry. The research was conducted in three stages: 1st stage - Recruitment/screening/guidance, 2nd stage - interview and data collection and the 3rd stage - the thermographic examination itself, before and after chewing Trident® gum for 2 minutes. After the application of the Fonseca Anamnesis Questionnaire and data collection, the volunteers received recommendations for preparation for the acquisition of thermographic images and were scheduled for a subsequent thermographic examination at the LTI of UEPB. The images were acquired using a portable thermal camera with an infrared sensor FLIR T650sc Infrared, at a distance of 80 cm from the volunteer, in three moments. First, when the volunteer arrived at the laboratory, in a second moment, after chewing the gum for 2 minutes, and in the third moment, 20 minutes after the second intervention, during the muscle rest period. Nine thermographic acquisitions were performed for each volunteer, divided as follows: frontal, right lateral and left lateral norms at each moment mentioned above. The thermographic images were analyzed using the FLIR Thermal Studio software to thermographically evaluate the influence of chewing on the masseter and anterior temporal muscles. Forty-seven female volunteers with a mean age of 27 years and 51.1% of whom were white were evaluated. Descriptive statistical analysis characterized the sample. Repeated Measures Analysis of Variance (ANOVA-MR) was selected to evaluate muscle temperature scores before the intervention (pre-test), 2 minutes after the intervention (post-test) and 20 minutes after the intervention (follow-up). Then, Bonferroni's post-hoc test was used to identify the difference between groups. The assumption of sphericity was assessed using the Mauchly test. When violated, the Greenhouse-Geisser or Huynh-Feldt corrections were applied. For the temporal muscle, since the normal distribution of residues was not observed, the Fridman test was used and, subsequently, the Wilcoxon Signed Rank test to assess the difference between groups. Most participants did not present temporomandibular dysfunction (40.4%), and among those with dysfunction, the mild degree was the most frequent (34%). Regarding the Body Mass Index (BMI), 27% were within the normal weight. Chewing caused an increase in facial temperature in the regions analyzed, which showed a reduction in temperature shortly after follow-up. The chewing test increases the diagnostic efficiency of the thermographic examination to aid in the diagnosis of TMDs.

O objetivo desta pesquisa foi avaliar a aplicabilidade da Termografia Infravermelha para quantificar a temperatura facial antes e após a mastigação, mensurando a temperatura dos músculos mastigatórios masseter e temporal anterior. Esta pesquisa foi aprovada pelo Comitê de Ética em Pesquisa da UEPB sob CAAE 80009824.4.0000.5187. Tratou-se de um estudo do tipo transversal analítico e quantitativo, realizado no Laboratório de Termografia Infravermelha (LTI) do Departamento de Odontologia da Universidade Estadual da Paraíba – UEPB – Campus I. A amostra foi composta por 47 voluntárias de demanda espontânea, recrutadas no Departamento de Odontologia. A pesquisa foi realizada em três etapas: 1ª etapa - Recrutamento/triagem/orientações, 2ª etapa - entrevista e coleta de dados e a 3ª etapa – o exame termográfico propriamente dito, antes e após a mastigação do chiclete Trident® durante 2 minutos. Após a aplicação do questionário Anamnésico de Fonseca e a coleta de dados, os voluntários receberam as recomendações para preparo para a aquisição das imagens termográficas e foram agendados para posterior exame termográfico no LTI da UEPB. A aquisição das imagens foi realizada através de uma câmera térmica portátil de sensor infravermelho FLIR T650sc Infrared, a uma distância de 80 cm do voluntário, em três momentos. Primeiramente, quando o voluntário chegou ao laboratório, num segundo momento, após mastigar por 2 minutos o chiclete, e no terceiro momento, 20 minutos após a segunda intervenção, no período de repouso do músculo. Foram realizadas nove aquisições termográficas para cada voluntário, divididas da seguinte forma: em norma frontal, lateral direita e lateral esquerda em cada momento acima citado. As imagens termográficas foram analisadas por meio do software FLIR Thermal Studio para avaliar termograficamente a influência da mastigação sobre os músculos mastigatórios masseter e temporal anterior. Foram avaliadas 47 voluntárias do sexo feminino com idade média de 27 anos, sendo 51,1% da raça branca. A análise estatística descritiva caracterizou a amostra. Foi selecionada a Análise de Variância de Medidas Repetidas (ANOVA-MR), com o objetivo de avaliar os escores de temperatura muscular antes da intervenção (pré-teste), 2 minutos após a intervenção (pós-teste) e 20 minutos após a intervenção (follow-up), em seguida, utilizou-se o post-hoc de Bonferroni para identificar a diferença entre grupos. O pressuposto de esfericidade foi avaliado por meio do teste de Mauchly. Quando violado, foram aplicadas as correções de Greenhouse-Geisser ou Huynh-Feldt. Para o músculo temporal, como a distribuição normal dos resíduos não foi acatada, utilizou-se o Teste de Fridman e a posteriori o teste de Wilcoxon Signed Rank para avaliar a diferença entre grupos. A maior parte das participantes não apresentaram disfunção temporomandibular (40,4%), e entre aquelas com a disfunção, o grau leve foi o mais frequente (34%). Em relação ao Índice de Massa Corporal (IMC), 27% estavam dentro do peso normal. A mastigação provocou aumento da temperatura na face nas regiões analisadas, que logo após o follow-up, teve uma redução de temperatura. O teste de mastigação aumenta a eficiência diagnóstica do exame termográfico para auxiliar no diagnóstico das DTMs.application/pdfUniversidade Estadual da ParaíbaPrograma de Pós-Graduação em Odontologia - PPGOUEPBBRPró-Reitoria de Pós-Graduação e Pesquisa - PRPGPPró-Reitoria de Pós-Graduação e Pesquisa - PRPGPTHERMOGRAPHYODONTOLOGIATERMOGRAFIAMÚSCULO MASSETERMÚSCULO TEMPORALTEMPERATURA CORPORALDIAGNÓSTICO POR IMAGEMMASSETER MUSCLETEMPORAL MUSCLEBODY TEMPERATUREIMAGING DIAGNOSISAplicabilidade da termografia infravermelha para quantificar a temperatura facial durante a mastigaçãoinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersioninfo:eu-repo/semantics/masterThesisVIEIRA, LUIZ EDUARDO MARINHOhttp://lattes.cnpq.br/3096763371621530DANTAS, JANAINA ARAÚJOhttp://lattes.cnpq.br/9043372104870611BENTO, PATRICIA MEIRAhttp://lattes.cnpq.br/1412191852608167MELO, ANA TATIANA GONZALEZ DEinfo:eu-repo/semantics/openAccessporreponame:Repositório Institucional da Universidade Estadual da Paraíba (UEPB)instname:Universidade Estadual da Paraíba (UEPB)instacron:UEPBORIGINALDS - Ana Tatiana Gonzalez.pdfDS - Ana Tatiana Gonzalez.pdfDS - Ana Tatiana Gonzalez.pdfapplication/pdf2340608https://repositorio.uepb.edu.br/bitstreams/90945f2c-c95e-48d1-8488-5c17acc0bf41/download31f4f8d5d21f89030edd23616e284995MD54trueAnonymousREADTERMO DE DEPÓSITO.pdfTERMO DE DEPÓSITO.pdfTERMO DE DEPÓSITO.pdfapplication/pdf336299https://repositorio.uepb.edu.br/bitstreams/822e9dd1-c048-4c1a-806b-a18115d1f09f/downloadd3328bf0af23a19499a718357ae52c4dMD55falseAdministratorREADLICENSElicense.txtlicense.txttext/plain;
