Resumo: | Inselbergs are granitic rocky outcrops frequently found in the northeastern region of Brazil. These relict geomorphological formations present distinct characteristics from the matrix area in which they are inserted, providing a greater possibility of niches, especially for xerophytic species. According to the hypothesis of habitat heterogeneity, the more complex and heterogeneous an environment is, the greater the diversity of species it harbors. Based on this, the objective of this work was to analyze how environmental variables in these inselbergs influence the occurrence of herpetofauna. The two inselbergs that were studied are located in a Caatinga area, in the municipality of Patos, state of Paraíba. Data collection was carried out monthly for a period of one year, recording sightings by active search of transects and occasional encounters. To identify the structure of environmental variables, 20 quadrants/parcels of 16m² were delimited. Vegetation characteristics and abiotic variables were recorded. A total of 1,874 sightings were recorded, of which 148 were amphibians (17 spp), 1689 were lizards (13 spp), and 37 were snakes (7spp). The anurans consisted of 5 families, with Leptodactylidae (n=8) and Hylidae (n=5) showing the highest richness. For lizards there were 7 families, with Gekkonidae (n=3) and Teiidae (n=3) having the highest richness and for snakes, 2 families were recorded, Dipsadidae (n=6) showed the highest richness. PCA analysis showed that variables related to vegetational structure, such as tree height and density, leaf litter height, understory density and number of fallen branches, explained the species richness the most. Sites with greater vegetational structure and humidity favor the richness of reptiles and amphibians, thus demonstrating that environmental heterogeneity plays an important role in local species diversity. |

Essas formações geomorfológicas relictuais apresentam características distintas da área matriz na qual estão inseridas, fornecendo uma maior possibilidade de nichos, especialmente para espécies xerófitas. Segundo a hipótese da heterogeneidade de habitats, quanto mais complexo e heterogêneo é um ambiente, maior a diversidade de espécies que ele abriga. Com base nisso, o objetivo deste trabalho foi analisar como as variáveis ambientais nestes inselbergues influenciam a ocorrência da herpetofauna. Os dois inselbergues que foram estudados estão localizados em uma área de Caatinga, no município de Patos, estado da Paraíba. As coletas de dados foram realizadas mensalmente pelo período de um ano, sendo feito o registro dos avistamentos através do método de busca ativa nos transectos e de encontros ocasionais. Para a identificação da estrutura das variáveis ambientais foram delimitadas 20 quadrantes/parcelas de 16m². Foram registradas características vegetacionais e variáveis abióticas. Foram registrados 1.874 avistamentos, sendo 148 de anfíbios (17 spp), 1689 de lagartos (13 spp) e 37 de serpentes (7spp). Os anuros consistiram em 5 famílias, com Leptodactylidae (n=8) e Hylidae (n=5) apresentando a maior riqueza. Para os lagartos foram 7 famílias, com Gekkonidae (n=3) e Teiidae (n=3) com as maiores riquezas e, para as serpentes, 2 famílias foram registradas, Dipsadidae (n=6) apresentou a maior riqueza. A análise de PCA demonstrou que as variáveis relacionadas à estrutura vegetacional, como altura e densidade das árvores, altura da serrapilheira, densidade de sub-bosque e número de galhos caídos, são as que mais explicam a riqueza de espécies. Os locais com maior estrutura vegetacional e umidade favorecem a riqueza de répteis e anfíbios, desta forma, demonstrando que a heterogeneidade ambiental tem importante papel na diversidade local de espécies.application/pdfUniversidade Estadual da ParaíbaPrograma de Pós-Graduação em Ecologia e Conservação - PPGECUEPBBRPró-Reitoria de Pós-Graduação e Pesquisa - PRPGPPró-Reitoria de Pós-Graduação e Pesquisa - PRPGPCIENCIAS BIOLOGICASHeterogeneidadeAfloramentos rochosos graníticosCaatingaAnfíbiosRépteisHerpetofauna de Inselbergues na Paraíba: Diversidade e influência de fatores bióticos e abióticos na ocorrência das espéciesHerpertofauna of agricultural areas adjacent to the Guaribas Biological Reserve, state of Paraíba, northeast of Brazilinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersioninfo:eu-repo/semantics/masterThesisAraújo, Maria de Fátima dehttps://orcid.org/0000-0002-9612-6614Bernarde, Paulo Sérgiohttps://orcid.org/0000-0002-9612-6614Kokubum, Marcelo Nogueira de CarvalhoVieira, Leydiane Galdino de Oliveirainfo:eu-repo/semantics/embargoedAccessporreponame:Repositório Institucional da Universidade Estadual da Paraíba (UEPB)instname:Universidade Estadual da Paraíba (UEPB)instacron:UEPBLICENSElicense.txtlicense.txttext/plain;
