Resumo: Aging is a complex biological phenomenon that leads to structural and functional changes in various body systems, especially the skin. Infrared thermography is a non-invasive and promising technique for assessing these changes, enabling a sensitive and effective analysis of cutaneous thermal distribution. The aim of this study was to analyze and compare the temperature distribution on the skin surface of women from different age groups, with and without the application of botulinum toxin, using infrared thermography. The sample consisted of 137 women, determined through sample size calculation, and divided into three age groups (18–24 years; 25–45 years; 46–65 years), selected from the Department of Dentistry at the State University of Paraíba (UEPB), Campus I, in Campina Grande, PB. Among these participants, 46 women had undergone botulinum toxin treatment. The study was structured in three distinct phases, as follows: in the first phase, participants underwent a detailed anamnesis, addressing aspects of general health, facial health, and skincare habits. Additionally, they completed a questionnaire based on the Baumann Skin Type Classification System. In the second phase, participants were referred to the Thermography Laboratory at UEPB, Campus I, for acquisition of thermographic images using a FLIR T650 Infrared portable infrared sensor camera. In the third phase, participants underwent a thorough clinical examination, in which specific topographic points on the face were measured. Simultaneously, skin hydration, oiliness, and elasticity were assessed through electrical impedance analysis (Skin Up). For statistical analysis, ANOVA and the Kruskal-Wallis test were applied to assess skin temperatures. The results revealed that younger women exhibited higher facial temperatures and that temperature varied according to the menstrual cycle. The application of botulinum toxin did not significantly alter facial thermal patterns, although a tendency toward lower temperatures in treated areas was observed through the independent t-test and the Mann-Whitney test. Moderate negative correlations between age and temperature in specific facial regions—particularly among women who had not received botulinum toxin—were identified using Pearson and Spearman tests. It is concluded that facial cutaneous temperature distribution presents significant variations across different age groups, with higher values observed in younger women. However, the application of botulinum toxin did not result in expressive thermographic changes, indicating that its use does not significantly interfere with facial thermal patterns.

A termografia infravermelha é uma técnica não invasiva e promissora para avaliar essas mudanças, possibilitando a análise da distribuição térmica cutânea de forma sensível e eficaz. O objetivo desse estudo foi analisar e comparar a distribuição de temperatura na superfície da pele em mulheres de diversas faixas etárias com e sem aplicação da toxina botulínica por meio da termografia infravermelha. A amostra foi composta por 137 mulheres, com base em cálculo amostral, divididas em três grupos etários (18-24 anos; 25-45 anos; 46-65 anos) selecionadas no Departamento de Odontologia da Universidade Estadual da Paraíba (UEPB), no campus I, em Campina Grande-PB. Dentre essas participantes, 46 mulheres fizeram uso da toxina botulínica. O estudo foi estruturado em três etapas distintas, assim distribuídas: na primeira etapa, as participantes foram submetidas a uma anamnese detalhada, abordando aspectos de saúde geral, saúde facial e hábitos de cuidado com a pele e, adicionalmente, responderam a um questionário fundamentado no Sistema Baumann de Classificação do Tipo de Pele; na segunda etapa, as pacientes foram encaminhadas ao laboratório de Termografia da UEPB, campus I, para aquisição das imagens termográficas por meio de uma câmera portátil de sensor infravermelho FLIR T650 Infrared e a terceira etapa, as participantes foram submetidas a um exame clínico minucioso, onde foram mensurados pontos topográficos específicos da face. Concomitantemente, realizou-se a avaliação da hidratação, oleosidade e elasticidade da pele por meio da análise de impedância elétrica (Skin Up). Para a análise dos resultados foram aplicados o teste ANOVA e o teste Kruskal-Wallis para avaliar as temperaturas cujos resultados revelaram que as mulheres mais jovens apresentaram temperaturas faciais mais elevadas e que a temperatura variou conforme o ciclo menstrual. A aplicação de toxina botulínica não alterou significativamente os padrões térmicos faciais, embora tenha sido observada uma tendência à redução da temperatura nos pontos tratados através do teste-t independente e do teste Mann-Whitney. Foram também identificadas correlações negativas moderadas entre idade e temperatura em determinadas regiões faciais, especialmente entre as mulheres que não receberam a toxina, através dos testes de Pearson e Spearman. Conclui-se que a distribuição da temperatura cutânea facial apresenta variações significativas entre as diferentes faixas etárias, com valores mais elevados observados em mulheres mais jovens. No entanto, a aplicação da toxina botulínica não resultou em alterações termográficas expressivas, indicando que seu uso não interfere significativamente nos padrões térmicos faciais.application/pdfUniversidade Estadual da ParaíbaPrograma de Pós-Graduação em Odontologia - PPGOUEPBBRPró-Reitoria de Pós-Graduação e Pesquisa - PRPGPPró-Reitoria de Pós-Graduação e Pesquisa - PRPGPCIENCIAS DA SAUDEEnvelhecimentoPeleTermografiaTemperaturaToxina botulínicaAnálise de parâmetros clínicos e termográficos da pele facial de mulheres em diferentes faixas etárias com e sem efeito da toxina botulínicainfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersioninfo:eu-repo/semantics/masterThesisMelo, Daniela Pita deBarbosa, Jussara da SilvaMaia, Ana Marly AraújoMarinho, Luiz Eduardo VieiraBento, Patrícia MeiraFreitas, Camila Tatyanne Santos deinfo:eu-repo/semantics/embargoedAccessporreponame:Repositório Institucional da Universidade Estadual da Paraíba (UEPB)instname:Universidade Estadual da Paraíba (UEPB)instacron:UEPBTHUMBNAILTS - Camila Tatyanne Santos de Freitas.pdf.jpgTS - Camila Tatyanne Santos de Freitas.pdf.jpgGenerated Thumbnailimage/jpeg3246https://repositorio.uepb.edu.br/bitstreams/a4815352-568c-496d-9aa8-6c71a9f8f5dd/downloaded248de0e6f9e2046c6974e5628c276bMD57falseAnonymousREAD2026-06-30Termo de Depósito BDTD.pdf.jpgTermo de Depósito BDTD.pdf.jpgGenerated Thumbnailimage/jpeg4646https://repositorio.uepb.edu.br/bitstreams/00025316-a323-4aa9-99dc-e1ea0d8e63a5/downloada7d5503a0093d56e10291b26dd216924MD58falseAdministratorREAD2999-12-31LICENSElicense.txtlicense.txttext/plain;
