Resumo: Introduction: Ageing population is a worldwide experience, which has been happening in a speeded way in Brazil. As well as the elderly population, the number of people who define themselves as black is increasing. The black population, especially quilombola populations are known for their social and healthy vulnerability. It is known environmental, physical, socioeconomical, lifestyle and genetic factors may affect the elderly’s body functionality. That way, identifying the limits of functionality through tests of physical capacity and the factors related become relevant to early identify the functional decline. Objective: To assess the factors related to the physical capacity of upper limbs and lower limbs in quilombolas elderly people. Methodology: Cross-sectional, analytic study, with primary data collection. The research was conducted with elderly people residents in the Quilombola community of Caiana dos Crioulos, in the municipality of Alagoa Grande/PB, Brazil. The dependent variables of this study were: physical capacity of upper and lower limbs. The independent variables are: age, social economical level, per capita family income, years of study, number of residents per home, symptoms indicating depression, number of referred morbidities, number of falls, nutritional status, metabolic risk, practice of physical activity and sedentary behavior. Data were submitted to double entry, whose validation was verified through the “validate” tool and through statistics program Epi Info 7.2 Descriptive data are presented under the mean, median, interquartile ranges, standard deviation, maximum and minimum value. To analyze the data, it was performed the multiple and linear simple regression (IC95%; p<0,05). Analyses was performed with the assistance of statistic software R (R CORE TEAM, 2019). Results: Forty-three elderly people was assessed, whose average age was 70.74 years (±6,66), ranging from 60 to 83 years. The average of handgrip strength (HS) was 22.44 kgf and the score of Short Physical Performance Battery (SPPB) was 8.47 (±2,09). The bivariate analysis of simple linear regression showed positive relation between HS and practice of physical activity (PPA); positive correlation between HS and mid upper arm circumference (MUAC) and significant inverse relation between the score of SPPB and age. The multiple model for HS showed significant relation with age, MUAC and years of study (R²=0,374; p<0,05). For SPPB, the model showed significant relation with age (R²=0,2524; p=0,001). Conclusion: This study showed that the muscle mass reserve, years of study and age were related to physical capacity among quilombolas elderly people. The higher the MUAC, the better the capacity of upper limbs, the higher the years of study, the worse the capacity of lower limbs. The older the person, the worse the capacity of upper and lower limbs. Thereby, it is suggested that these factors be priority in the development of strategies that aim maintenance and recovery of functionality.

Assim como a população idosa, cresce no Brasil o número de pessoas que se autodefinem negras. A população negra, sobretudo as populações quilombolas são reconhecidas por sua vulnerabilidade social e de saúde. Sabe-se que fatores ambientais, físicos, socioeconômicos, genéticos e de hábitos de vida podem afetar a funcionalidade do corpo do idoso. Dessa forma, a identificação das limitações da funcionalidade por meio de testes de capacidade física e dos fatores relacionados torna-se relevante para identificação precoce de declínio funcional. Objetivo: Avaliar os fatores relacionados à capacidade de membros superiores e de membros inferiores em idosos quilombolas. Metodologia: Estudo transversal, analítico, com coleta de dados primários. A pesquisa foi realizada com idosos residentes na comunidade Quilombola de Caiana dos Crioulos, no município de Alagoa Grande/PB, Brasil. As variáveis dependentes deste estudo foram: capacidade física de membros superiores e inferiores. As variáveis independentes são: idade, nível socioeconômico, renda familiar per capita, anos de estudo, número de residentes no domicílio, sintomas indicativos de depressão, número morbidades referidas, número de quedas, estado nutricional, risco metabólico, prática de atividade física e comportamento sedentário. Os dados foram submetidos à dupla entrada, cuja validação foi verificada por meio da ferramenta “validate”, através do programa estatístico Epi Info 7.2. Os dados descritivos são apresentados sob a forma de média, mediana, intervalos interquartílicos, desvio padrão, valor máximo e mínimo. Para a análise dos dados foi realizada regressão linear simples e múltipla (IC95%; p<0,05). As análises foram realizadas com o auxílio do software estatístico R (R CORE TEAM, 2019). Resultados: Foram avaliados 43 idosos, cuja média etária foi 70,74 anos (±6,66), variando de 60 a 83 anos. A média da força de preensão manual (FPM) foi 22,44 kgf e da pontuação da Short Physical Performance Battery (SPPB) foi 8,47(±2,09). A análise bivariada da regressão linear simples mostrou relação positiva significativa entre FPM e prática de atividade física (PAF); relação positiva significativa entre FPM e circunferência muscular do braço (CMB) e relação inversa significativa entre a pontuação da SPPB e a idade. O modelo múltiplo para FPM mostrou relação significativa com a idade, CMB e anos de estudo (R²=0,374; p<0,05). Para a SPPB o modelo mostrou relação significativa com a idade (R²=0,2524; p=0,001). Conclusão: Este estudo mostrou que a reserva de massa muscular, os anos de estudo e a idade foram fatores relacionados à capacidade física entre os idosos quilombolas. Quanto maior a CMB melhor a capacidade de membros superiores, quanto maior os anos de estudo pior a capacidade de membros superiores. Quanto maior a idade pior a capacidade de membros superiores e inferiores. Assim, sugere-se que estes fatores sejam prioridade na elaboração de estratégias que visem a manutenção e recuperação da funcionalidade.application/pdfUniversidade Estadual da ParaíbaPrograma de Pós-Graduação em Saúde Pública - PPGSPUEPBBRPró-Reitoria de Pós-Graduação e Pesquisa - PRPGPPró-Reitoria de Pós-Graduação e Pesquisa - PRPGPEthnic groupsPhysical functional performanceHealth of the ElderlySAUDE COLETIVAGrupos étnicosDesempenho físico funcionalSaúde do idosoIdosos quilombolasFatores relacionados à capacidade física de membros superiores e inferiores de idosos de uma comunidade quilombolaFactors influencing the permanence of doctors in Primary Health Care after completing residency in Family and Community Medicine in the State of Paraíbainfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersioninfo:eu-repo/semantics/masterThesisCosta, Gabriela Maria CavalcantiFerreira, José Jamacy de AlmeidaMenezes, Tarciana Nobre deFurtado, Brenda Natally Soaresinfo:eu-repo/semantics/openAccessporreponame:Repositório Institucional da Universidade Estadual da Paraíba (UEPB)instname:Universidade Estadual da Paraíba (UEPB)instacron:UEPBLICENSElicense.txtlicense.txttext/plain;
