Resumo: | Industrial activities generate various types of waste, including kaolin residue, whose high production has raised concerns and encouraged the search for solutions that add value to this material. By modifying it with ZnO, a naturally abundant, non-toxic and low-cost compound, the removal of waste from the environment is promoted, minimizing environmental damage. This study aimed to synthesize and characterize photocatalysts based on kaolin residue, modified with ZnO, for photocatalytic application in the decolorization/degradation of the anionic dye remazol yellow RG. The photocatalysts were synthesized by the coprecipitation method followed by calcination, in which the concentration of the active phase (ZnO) supported on the kaolin residue (RC) was varied with the intention of incorporating 10%, 20% and 30% of this phase and calcined at 500 °C for 5 hours, obtaining the photocatalysts named ZnO-RC10%, ZnO-RC-20% and ZnO-RC-30%. Subsequently, depending on the best result, the calcination temperature was also varied at 400 °C and 600 °C to study the influence of this parameter on the formation and efficiency of the photocatalysts. The photocatalytic tests were performed in a reactor with a UVC radiation lamp and the efficiency of the dye decolorization was monitored by UV-vis spectroscopy at a wavelength of 412 nm. The characterization results of the synthesized hybrids demonstrated their efficient formation, in which the XRD patterns of the synthesized photocatalysts presented, in addition to the characteristic peaks of kaolin, characteristic peaks of ZnO in 2θ regions of approximately 31.7; 34.4; 36.2; 45.5; 56.6 and 62.8. The XRF and EDS results corroborated this fact, in which the EDS spectra of all photocatalysts presented very clear signs of the presence of zinc metal and the XRF results presented ZnO percentage of 7.70%, 14.97% and 15.76% for ZnO-RC-10%, ZnO-RC-20% and ZnO-RC-30%, respectively. After performing the photocatalytic tests, it was found that the photocatalysts ZnO-RC-20% and ZnO-RC-30% presented the best photodecolorization results, 69.96% and 79.03, respectively. Therefore, it was decided to synthesize the photocatalyst ZnORC-20% at different calcination temperatures (400 and 600 °C) and evaluate the influence on the photodecolorization process. A difference in efficiency was observed according to the calcination temperature, with the photocatalyst calcined at 400 °C showing better efficiency with 78.15% of dye discoloration. The results demonstrated the possibility of valorizing the kaolin residue and the formation of promising photocatalysts, in addition to efficiency in up to three reuse cycles. |

Ao modificá-lo com ZnO, um composto abundante na natureza, não tóxico e de baixo custo, promove-se a remoção de resíduos do ambiente, minimizando os danos ambientais. Este estudo teve como objetivo sintetizar e caracterizar fotocatalisadores baseados em resíduo de caulim, modificados com ZnO para aplicação fotocatalítica na descoloração/degradação do corante aniônico amarelo de remazol RG. Os fotocatalisadores foram sintetizados pelo método de coprecipitação seguido de calcinação, nos quais variou-se a concetração da fase ativa (ZnO) suportada no resíduo de caulim (RC) com a intenção de incorporar 10%, 20% e 30% dessa fase e calcinados a 500 ºC por 5 horas, obtendo-se os fotocatalisadores nomeados ZnO-RC-10%, ZnO-RC-20% e ZnO-RC-30%. Posteriormente, mediante o melhor resultado, variou-se também a temperatura de calcinação em 400 ºC e 600ºC para estudar a influência desse parâmetro na formação e eficiência dos fotocatalisadores. Os testes fotocatalíticos foram realizados em um reator com uma lâmpada de radiação UVC e a eficiência da descoloração do corante foi monitorada por espectroscopia de UV-vis no comprimento de onda de 412 nm. Os resultados de caracterização dos híbridos sintetizados demonstraram a eficiente formação dos mesmos, nos quais os padrões de DRX dos fotocatalisadores sintetizados apresentaram, além dos picos característicos do caulim, picos característicos do ZnO em regiões de 2Ɵ de aproximadamente 31,7; 34,4; 36,2; 45,5; 56,6 e 62,8. Os resultados de FRX e EDS corroboraram com esse fato, nos quais os espectros de EDS de todos os fotocatalisadores apresentaram sinais bem evidentes da presença do metal zinco e os resultados de FRX apresentaram porcetangem de ZnO de 7,70%, 14,97% e 15,76% para ZnO-RC-10%, ZnO-RC-20% e ZnO-RC-30%, respectivamente. Após a realização dos testes fotocatalíticos constatou-se que os fotocatalisadores ZnO-RC-20% e ZnO-RC-30% apresentaram os melhores resultados de fotodescoloração, 69,96% e 79,03, respectivamente. Sendo assim, optou-se por sintetizar o fotocatalisador ZnO-RC-20% em temperaturas de calcinação diferente (400 e 600 ºC) e avaliar a influência no processo de fotodescoloração. Percebeu-se diferença de eficiência de acordo com a temperatura de calcinação, sendo que o fotocatalisador calcinado a 400 ºC apresentou melhor eficiêcia com 78,15 % de descoloração do corante. Os resultados demonstraram a possibilidade de valorização do resíduo de caulim e a formação de fotocatalisadores promissores, além da eficiência em até três ciclos de reuso.application/pdfUniversidade Estadual da ParaíbaPrograma de Pós-Graduação em Química - PPGQUEPBBRPró-Reitoria de Pós-Graduação e Pesquisa - PRPGPPró-Reitoria de Pós-Graduação e Pesquisa - PRPGPQUIMICAResíduo de caulimÓxido de zincoFotocatálise heterogêneaCorantesResíduo de caulim modificado com ZnO aplicado na fotodegradação do corante aniônico amarelo de remazolZnO-modified kaolin residue applied in the photodegradation of the anionic dye remazol yellowinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersioninfo:eu-repo/semantics/masterThesisSilva, Adriano Lima dahttp://lattes.cnpq.br/6593911737907609Alves, Mary Cristina Ferreirahttp://lattes.cnpq.br/1408702023173864Furtini, Josy Anteveli Osajimahttp://lattes.cnpq.br/4805147682740024Brito, Deoclecio Ferreira dehttp://lattes.cnpq.br/2809045289696992http://lattes.cnpq.br/4405498959421004Rocha, Lindomário Limainfo:eu-repo/semantics/embargoedAccessporreponame:Repositório Institucional da Universidade Estadual da Paraíba (UEPB)instname:Universidade Estadual da Paraíba (UEPB)instacron:UEPBTHUMBNAILDS - Lindomário Lima Rocha.pdf.jpgDS - Lindomário Lima Rocha.pdf.jpgGenerated Thumbnailimage/jpeg2712https://repositorio.uepb.edu.br/bitstreams/d1204263-c6b6-4613-a09c-4d2f5b7779c5/downloadd8adf1294d453d291a352c50b29e673cMD58falseAnonymousREADTermo de depósito BDTD.pdf.jpgTermo de depósito BDTD.pdf.jpgGenerated Thumbnailimage/jpeg4766https://repositorio.uepb.edu.br/bitstreams/fa1176b4-f6d6-40d2-a57a-6560d36d3648/downloadf95bf6c097b78375c11ca1d1b8f3666aMD59falseAdministratorREAD2999-12-31ORIGINALDS - Lindomário Lima Rocha.pdfDS - Lindomário Lima Rocha.pdfDS - Lindomário Lima Rochaapplication/pdf2871791https://repositorio.uepb.edu.br/bitstreams/444f3dd9-e23a-4ff7-bb0d-cee593089c40/downloadf28795c52d2a3f670d133b850040d018MD55trueAnonymousREADTermo de depósito BDTD.pdfTermo de depósito BDTD.pdfTermo de depósito BDTDapplication/pdf101855https://repositorio.uepb.edu.br/bitstreams/dfe62fd9-2803-41ee-b9fe-c2582a867d4b/downloadf9f07965ec6a8c918e896a4b163627bbMD56falseAdministratorREAD2999-12-31LICENSElicense.txtlicense.txttext/plain;
