This dissertation deals with the direction of vocational training in social work in private higher education institutions (HEIs) in Maceió / AL, in the classroom teaching mode and the distance. The objective is to identify the theoretical and methodological trends of training in these private HEIs. To understand the process of expansion of education in social work in private HEIs in Brazil and particularly in Maceió / AL, it is essential to understand the process of capital crisis and their recovery strategies of profit rates, particularly in contrarreforma context of the State and the repercussions for educational policy in Brazil. We wanted to understand how these determinations of capital have implications for a training proposal in line with the social direction assumed in the ethical-political project of Social Work from the late 1979 assertion moment of critical social theory and commitment with the corporate design of the working class. The methodological research proposal relied on the critical-dialectical perspective, using the bibliographic and documentary research. They analyzed 03 (three) educational projects of Social Work courses (course approval period, justification of curriculum reform, training design, general and specific objectives of the training, assuming the formation and profile to be formed) and 02 (two ) travel plans of disciplines (menus, objectives, content, basic bibliographies) of these private HEIs (classroom and distance). The direction of education in social work in private HEIs (the distance) in Maceió / AL expressed theoretical and methodological trends that rescue and reinforce the principles of conservative bases of the profession. It was observed that the direction of education in social work in the kind of education, distance learning (ODL) is committed to maintaining the direction of the training project proposed by ABEPSS / 1996, because it reinforces a professional profile that answers the immediate demands of the labor market in execution of projects and services of existing social programs. Join the direction of vocational training in-person private HEIs indicate a rapprochement with the guidelines of the curriculum guidelines of ABEPSS / 1996 in PPCs and travel plans of disciplines (menus, objectives, basic contents and bibliographies). It is concluded that there are differences between the direction of education in the face private HEIs and private HEIs EAD in Maceió / AL. While classroom learning points for a general education and criticizes, on the other hand the EAD school offers an education that enhances pragmatism, subjectivism, welfare, the micro analysis of social phenomena, the stimulus to social responsibility and social entrepreneurship (strokes peculiar to rescue conservatism in Social Work).
