This research paper is entitled: "social reproduction strategies of family agriculture: pluriactivity in the city of Assunçao (PB)." The area chosen for the study was the city of Assuncão, Western Cariri of Paraiba. The overall objective is to analyze the role of pluriactivity in the constitution of the income of farmers and their implications for diversification, autonomy and family social reproduction. Four assumptions articulate this work, namely: the pluriactivity contributes to the social reproduction of the local family farming; enables the family to provide other resources for agricultural investments in rural establishment; complements the income of the family that has a rural setting in inappropriate conditions for agricultural production and helps boost the local economy by creating a development cycle, since the income earned in these new occupations, is invested in the city itself: trade location and / or other activities. The field research provided the construction of a primary database, through direct observation, conducting 20 semi-structured interviews and application of 20 questionnaires. The documentary research was conducted IBGE, EMATER, Assunção of Rural Workers Union and the Department of Agriculture. Data testified that there is considerable practice of pluriactivity in the city of Assuncão, with a relevant local infrastructure, divided into some productive sectors prevalent as mineral extraction, especially the kaolin processing, work with clay in bricks, the service sector, with absolute predominance in job positions offered by the city. Also worth mentioning, trade and construction. Observed through research that the non-agricultural activities, considered by farmers as temporary and / or complementary, with agriculture the main activity practiced by them.
