To reflect on the literature written by Mozambican women is to think about the spaces that these writers occupy, because it is from them that the discourses of resistance and opposition to the hegemonic and patriarchal system are constructed, in the representation of contexts and fictional characters that expose and problematize the diverse aspects of social reality. The present dissertation aims to analyze the condition of the Mozambican woman in the contemporary novel Ventos do Apocalipse (2010), by the writer Paulina Chiziane, based on the novelistic character Emelina. We also seek to think about the author's writing in an attempt to make relevant aspects of her literary production visible, establishing a dialogue with the analytical corpus. The theoretical-methodological assumptions adopted for the development of this research are based on Alencar (2014), Alves (2018), Bahule (2018), Fanon (1968), Fonseca (2020; 2004), Foucault (2019), Freitas (2012), Gianini (2014), Macedo (2010), Mata (2014; 2001), Mendes e Santos (2016), among others. Emelina’s story recreates and evidences the consequences of the Mozambican Civil War for society and the female gender; the latter, silenced and impacted by physical and psychological violence, which causes the condition of madness and the mad passion that fades maternal love. From this perspective, Paulina Chiziane, by taking the feminine as the focus of discussion, seeks to give voice to the subalternized and colonized subject in the highlight of the social conjuncture that historically marginalizes, questioning the male domination that strengthens oppression and exposing the suffering arising from invasion, war, hunger, madness and colonization.
