As atividades de leitura dos alunos do 9º do ensino fundamental: reflexões sobre as estratégias metacognitivas de compreensão leitora

In the education of nowadays, the use of reading practices based on the conception of reading as decoding is still constant. Teaching based on this conception doesn´t consider the student as a text critical reader. However, in the teaching of reading and Portuguese language, it is important to mention the necessity of guiding the learners to use, in a conscious way, the reading strategies so that they achieve the so-called desired critical comprehension of written texts. It is, therefore, an objective of this work, to discuss how the students use the metacognitive strategies in the reading activities and if the activities in the textbook supply the use of such strategies. This way, the following authors were used as theoretical contribution for this study: Araújo (2008), Camps e Colomer (2002), Kato (1987), Kleiman (2002), Kleiman (2012), Solé (1998). It was through a qualitative research and case study that a questionnaire and two comprehension activities were applied with 42 students from the 9th grade in a public school in the city of Boa Vista, in the state of Paraíba. The results show that the majority of the students use some metacognitive strategies, such as, the foreknowledge, the known vocabulary, the attention to details, the re-reading and the lexical inference.
