With the character of historical and literary research, the intent of this study is to examine the literature produced during the military dictatorship for children and young people, particularly in the 1970s, demonstrating how this literature makes claims about the historical living moment and its importance for the construction of Brazilian identity and culture. It started from the hypothesis that there is in the Brazilian literature for children a strong denunciation of the system introduced by a Coup d’etat in 1964, causing what it called the Military Dictatorship in Brazil. Literature for children published during this time was extremely creative to circumvent the censorship. It produced a speech that was apparently said not much, but really well represented the socio-historical context faced by the writers of the time. It was selected, as research corpus, fifteen (15) books of the writers Ana Maria Machado, Lygia Bojunga and Ruth Rocha for observe how the dictatorship is represented in the stories, what forms of control and domination that permeate throughout the narratives used by dictators, which means to fight against the dictatorship are pointed in the books, and what was the role of the children in that process. It concludes that there is a strong complaint of the dictatorial system in the books for children of the 1970s.
