This study aims to analyze some of the main aspects that the changes brought about by the enactment of Law 12.010/09, known as New National Adoption Law, brought to the work of social workers in children's courts of the municipality of Rio de Janeiro, seeking to observe, to some extent, these changes favored the realization of the principles of the current Code of Ethics of these professionals in carrying out their daily work. For better understanding of the topic have been addressed issues relating to the social significance of the profession in capitalist society, the historical movement of renewal of the Brazilian Social Service that culminated in the construction of the Ethical-Political Project critic of bourgeois sociability, the inclusion of social workers in the area sociojurídica, mainly in Justice for children and Youth, as well as historical analysis of public policies for children and adolescents in Brazil. The methodology used was based on the collection of data on primary and secondary sources. As primary sources, semi-structured interviews were conducted with social workers, dealing with their professional practice in the sticks of Children and Youth and the changes brought about by the enactment of Law 12.010/09. As a secondary source survey was carried out of the existing literature on issues related to the current Ethical-Political Project of Social Work, the institutionalization care of children and adolescents and the inclusion of social workers in sociojurídica area, as well as analysis of the relevant legislation to the theme research. We underscore the importance of the research that has as object the work of the social worker, with a view to fundamentally interventionist nature of this profession. This study is based on critical social theory, constructed through the historical dialectical materialist method, which seeks the real unveiling by overcoming the empirical knowledge of the processes and advancing the knowledge of the essence of the object of study.
