Resumo: | Flare is an indispensable device in the oil and gas industry, which allows the safe combustion of gases. However, it is not ideal for routine disposal of gases (including toxic and odorous), as it is subject to meteorological influences and low operational control. Mathematical modeling of atmospheric dispersion has proved to be a very useful to assess the implications of flaring on the environment and health. In this sense, this work evaluated, through computational fluid dynamics (CFD), the effects of wind, as well as operational actions on the flame geometry of an oil refinery chemical flare, which temporarily burns H2S-rich gas and its influence on atmospheric dispersion. Additionally, it evaluated the impact of H2S on the well-being (odor perception) of the community surrounding, as well as the operational aspects of atmospheric dispersion. For odor evaluation, the AERMOD model was used, adapted to estimate the maximum concentration and odor for very short periods (within a time interval of 5 s) through peak-mean relationships. The results showed that the detection of H2S, for absolute maximum concentration, can reach a probability rate of 41 % at 3.5 km away from the flare with a relatively high annoyance degree (3.0 AU). However, some operating procedures may reduce the probability of odor detection. Regarding CFD, the model developed to obtain the geometry’s flame of the chemical flare on industrial scale agrees with the flame monitoring image and can be used to analyze the meteorological and operational influences of these systems. |

Submitted by Julia CTC/B (julia.vieira@uerj.br) on 2023-01-27T21:25:27Z No. of bitstreams: 1 Tese - Shyrlene Lima de Aquino Oliveira - 2022 - Completo.pdf: 4412295 bytes, checksum: 449abbda831966a7ac3913e37857a3b6 (MD5)Made available in DSpace on 2023-01-27T21:25:27Z (GMT).
