"Não chore, pesquise!": Reflexões sobre sexo, gênero e ciência a partir do neurofeminismo.

In this work, we reflected on the relationship between sex, gender, science and feminism, through the analysis of the contemporary production of a group of researchers who call themselves neurofeminists, organized since 2010 in an international network called NeuroGenderings. The goal of NeuroGenderings is to build a critical feminist perspective to recent studies on the brain, especially those studies seeking for differences between men and women. The neurofeminists are engaged in producing a situated neuroscience, openly feminist, that does not leave aside the materiality of bodies and especially that of the brain , at the same time they are politically concerned with gender hierarchies. They seek, therefore, to produce an empirical neuroscience capable of producing what they dub proximity zones between molecules and political landscapes. They also plan to combat neurossexism , that is, masculinity and femininity stereotypes that are present in much of neuroscience scientific production, as well as in its dissemination to the wider public. We mapped the NeuroGenderings network based in two methodological strategies: the reading and analysis of the bibliographical production of the neurofeminists (both from official publications of the network and from individual publications of the researchers) and the observation of the most recent reunion and conference of the NeuroGenderings network, held in the city of Lausanne, Switzerland, in 2014. Neurofeminism offers us relevant analytic material to reflect on the disputed ideals of scientificity regarding the idea of a feminist neuroscience, taking into account the belief that science and politics belong to separate and immiscible spheres, and that neutrality should be a mandatory feature to practice good science. In addition, we observed a common ground between the work of neurofeminists and the work of another important group of scholars in the field of science and gender studies, called feminist biologists . Feminist biologists inspire neuroscientific production, especially with regard to their anti-dualist perspective, that rejects oppositions between sex and gender, nature and culture, viewing them intertwined and inseparable. However, even being the interweaving of sex and gender a consensus among neurofeminists, there is no agreement on how this interweaving should be addressed in neuroscienfic terms. Thus, the discussion around the concept of cerebral plasticity shows some of these disagreements, as well as the tensions between human sciences and neuroscience inside NeuroGenderings, a network marked by interdisciplinarity. These tensions, however, do not invalidate the neurofeminist project to think the brain as an object of shared knowledge.
