The thesis aims to develop verbal predication in classrooms from a new perspective, making use of stylistics to analyze verbs in texts, with the purpose not only of classification but also of comprehending meanings expressed by verbs, considering the functions of structures. The chosen genre is the song, which is very well received by students and operates as an efficient didactic tool due to its expressive and creative characteristics and because it is part of human life from an early age. This genre contributes to memorization, the development of affectivity, the promotion of aesthetic pleasure and therapeutic goals. Initially, the research project examines a diverse bibliography about verbal predication, highlighting the differences and similarities between these publications to reiterate the flexibility of the subject and the limited productivity of teaching dedicated to nomenclature. In order to become a reference for people interested in the subject, it also includes diachronic analysis, demonstrating the divergence of approaches to predication since the Nineteenth Century. The thesis examines the contributions of Lapa (1998), Martins (2012), Bakhtin (2013) and others to stylistics. The choice of songs was motivated by the observation of popular Brazilian music that students in school environments listen to. The analysis of verbal predication considers syntactic, semantic and stylistic causes, observing how the transitivity of verbs is related to the meanings produced in texts and to discursive purposes. The songs are employed for listening and collective interpretation, allowing the examination of verb roles by providing questions that enable the comprehension of meanings. Based on the research results, the efficacy of this approach to verbal transitivity is investigated.
