From my translation of the book Milli's Awakening: Black Women, Art and Resistance, by the German author Natasha A. Kelly, this dissertation presents the narratives of Kelly’s interviewees whose stories intertwine with those of the Brazilian women from the favela. Between 2020 and 2021, this master's research is shaped by incorporating conversations with Black artists from the Maré favela, including my own escrevivência (a blendword of escrita/writing and vivência/life experience), into the dialogic process of this writing. The main objective was listening to the autohistorias of afro-faveladas and transcribe them in order to make them dialogue with the Afro-German women’s narratives. These transatlantic conversations, between seas and tides, bring out stories of black women told by themselves and which go far beyond the media narratives which are daily imposed on us, mainly regarding the peripheral populations, the intersections and the violence suffered by the black female body. This transatlantic network navigates through other experiences and points of view necessary to move us away from the white eurocentered narrative, thus providing opportunities for an attentive listening and a network of knowledge and affections so powerfully constructed by black women from the diasporic atlantic movements.
