From the Fossil to the Humus, an interdisciplinary analisis, artistic and theoretical, on oil, its uses and its presence in society, as well as about the transformations driven by the rise of climate change and the consideration of the human agent as a geological force on the planet. As a non-linear montage, the artistic research crosses disciplinary fields like archaeology, geology, chemistry, biology, history, philosophy, anthropology, sociology, and enters the realms of politics from an investigation on the fossil matter, made by the carbon element. The enquiry proposes dialogues with the thought of authors like Bruno Latour, Donna Haraway, Michel Serres, Timothy Mitchell, Lucy Lippard, Déborah Danowski and Eduardo Viveiros de Castro, as well as with the work of artists like Robert Smithson, Ana Mendieta, J. M. W. Turner, Giuseppe Penone, among others. The author's art works and artistic writings are part of the content and materialize thoughts about the scale colapse between the human and the planet, body and Earth, and the bounded relationship between natural and artificial, nature and art. Between images, words and matters, the thesis explores art as proponent of figurations for the present and the future, specially in the new thermodynamic order of the Earth.
