In the Brazilian context, there is an intrinsic relationship between the “model” of development based on large projects, the changes in the profile of the working class in the region that suffers the intervention, mainly due to the migratory process of the workforce of “big works”, and the expanded reproduction of expressions of the “social issue”, impacting public policies. This is historical evidence that led to the present thesis, which aims to identify the repercussions of the great economic development projects on the working class, in particular, the segments of workers of large works, in their connection with the "social question" that thickens in regions affected by this socio-historical process at the beginning of the 21st century. The research had a theoretical-empirical and historical character, with qualitative dimensions, taking as a sample field the East Fluminense Region of the State of Rio de Janeiro, which lives under the effects of a large development project from the implementation of the Petrochemical Complex of Rio de Janeiro.
