This present research approaches the self-portrait phenomenon made by contemporary Brazilian photographers women that debate violence against women thematic. The aim is to analyse these self-portraits and relate then to feminist agenda, since the main characteristic from those productions is debating rights and important issues to women particularly violence to whose all then are susceptible to the day in Brazil. Therefore, it was elaborated a brief historical panorama of those tree central research´s objectives: (self-portrait, women Brazilian photographers and feminism) to better understand how this phenomenon increases in photography scenery as a political issue mainly from 21st Century, although it is already present since 19th Century. Thus, the research goes through the painting portrait history and posteriorly photograph´s history, seeking to observe: 1) ways to insertion and also women´s invisibility in European photography scenery, American and Brazilian; 2) the feminists artivisms in 20th Century fetched to report and to revert logics of oppression and violence against women; and 3) the ways how some of current agenda of feminism relates to self-portrait made by Brazilian women photographers. Methodologically, the research accomplished case studies of works from photographers such as Cris Bierrenbach, Fernanda Magalhães and Sunshine Castro, seeking to investigate the theme treatments and visual strategies and narratives applied in them works. The empirical analyses allowed to realised how current procedures such as the use of fabulation from associated image to words and from image appropriation and media imaginary (poetical and political elements particulars of photography in contemporary art) activates itself to feminist agenda without necessarily turn then to “feminist” photography, although those images are invariably transverse by problematics and women´s struggles, to this days and other times.
