Resumo: | The abject body of the male prostitute in literature aims to analyze how the selected literary works portray the image of the individual s body that exercises its survival through male prostitution. The literary corpus of this dissertation consists of novels from American literature (Closer, by Dennis Cooper, and Brutal Uncut, by Aiden Shaw) and from Brazilian literature (Clube dos homens bonitos, by Marco Lacerda, and O gosto do sexo sem rosto, by Marlon Albuquerque). The introduction briefly discusses the lack of literary studies on the image of the male prostitute in novels. The first chapter brings a historical approach on male prostitution in Ancient Greece and Ancient Rome. The second chapter deals with showing the four most common types of male prostitutes who are currently working. The third chapter seeks to portray the most prominent places where male prostitution occurs; in this chapter, there is the beginning of the dialogue between actual observation (streets, bath houses and basfonds) and literary works. The fourth chapter presents the novels studied and an analysis of the author of this work on the novels. |

O corpus literário desta tese é formado por romances da literatura norte-americana (Closer, de Dennis Cooper, e Brutal Uncut, de Aiden Shaw) e da literatura brasileira (Clube dos homens bonitos, de Marco Lacerda, e O gosto do sexo sem rosto, de Marlon Albuquerque). A introdução discorre brevemente sobre a carência de estudos literários no que tange à figura do prostituto nos romances. O primeiro capítulo traz uma abordagem histórica sobre a prostituição masculina na Grécia Antiga e Roma Antiga. O segundo capítulo se ocupa de mostrar os quatro tipos mais comuns de prostitutos que trabalham atualmente. O terceiro capítulo busca retratar os locais mais proeminentes onde a prostituição masculina ocorre; neste capítulo, há o início do diálogo entre observação real (ruas, saunas e locais de pegação) e obras literárias.
